"We're a good team and I think Gareth has done an unbelievable job," the Tigers boss told Hull Live. "He doesn't get the credit. "From where we were when Gareth took the job to where we are as a nation now expecting success - we weren't expecting success before Gareth took the job. "No matter what happens, he needs to be respected for the job he's done and the job I hope he continues to do because he's an outstanding guy who stands up for all the right things and an outstanding coach, too." "Gareth's been really good to me," Rosenior explained. "Gareth invited me to St George's Park about a year ago or so ago and he had two hours with me, helping me with my coaching career and that's the type of guy he is. "That's why I think he's got the success that he deserves because he cares about people and wants the best for them. He's an amazing guy, he's an amazing coach and I think he's going to be a success. "I hope he's a success for our national team for as long as he wants to be. "His humility, his belief in his values in terms of building a culture - people look at Gareth and he's a lovely guy but you have to be ruthless and stand up for all the things you think are right and I think he's done those things and they are the three things I've taken from him. "To be an England manager, you have to make big decisions but there's a way of doing it where you can still get buy-in and respect from players and Gareth has done that. "He's not a screamer or a shouter, but if you ask the players how much they respect him and how they'd run through a brick wall for him, that's management, and that's something that I've learned from him."

But do you agree that against Croatia, Italy and France, Southgate ****ed up with his subs? lots of football pundit seems to think so, and that’s his big problem, he is incapable of making in game changing decisions,
Nobodies saying he hasn’t made mistakes, everyone does but he is learning from them. Against France? No. We dominated that game after their 1st goal went in, created plenty of chances right until the end, just one of those days where it wouldn’t go in. We didn’t lose that game because of Southgate.
You can spin stats as much as you want, this is the most talented squad for many years and Southgate lost 3 finals and got us relegated from the Nations League, now alter your stats.
Here’s the comparison, there’s not a massive difference, and I would argue all day long that this group is far better than Roys
I haven’t spun those stats, that’s just a fact that Southgate has achieved more across 3 tournaments in 4 years than every single manager combined in the 48 years before him. Also as posted previously I think this is a far cry in terms of strength on paper than the squads of the early 90’s and noughties > middle of last decade. Don’t think there’s a single player in the current squad you could make a case for being the best in the world in his position where as previously we have had several.
In qualifiers, no difference, Southgate's win rate 81%, Hodgson 80%. In finals matches, Southgate 58%, Hodgson 27%. Add together qualifying and finals games and Southgate's win rate is 72%, Hodgson 61%. Seems pretty clear who has the best record.
Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, Terry, Scholes - basically anyone who's been a key part of a champions league or major European club title winning side repeatedly can make a case for being one of the best in the world, or world class. Who would you say was world class now? We have some very good players, we have some talented youth with extremely high hopes but no one really who's consistently achieved what some players available to previous England managers did. Some managers had better/more complete players of their time to pick from, but we were never a cohesive unit, just a factional bunch of individuals. Southgate has built a team, and considering the average squad age its a team with a very bright future indeed if they can both individually and collectively reach their potential - and we're closer to doing that under Southgate than anyone since at least Sir Bobby (another who was hounded out by gobshites with more loudmouthed opinion than sense) and perhaps even Sir Alf.
I’ve never denied he has a good rate, my problem with him, when it matters in the big matches, he ****s it up with **** subs.
We've gone out against the likely winners after out playing them. Last 2 tournaments before were a semi and a final. Football is a low scoring game where not always the best team wins. Southgate has got more right with selection and tactics than wrong, as evidenced by his record at major tournaments.
Against Croatia, Italy and France there were long periods where I was thinking 'we've got this'. We lost all three. Bit careless that. Manager has to take the blame.
What for getting us there in the first place consistently like no other in recent times and the very nature of football being a bitch sometimes?
