WE did not award it to a nation. That nation bribed a load of FIFA officials who awarded it to said nation.

It is what it is. Not matter how much you may agree or disagree with it, it's not going to change. Not watching it doesn't bother anyone that matters, they've already got what they wanted and clearly no one gives a **** about spectators considering how many empty seats there's been (or not been if you believe the attendance figures being published)

You're quite right that whether we watch it or not makes no difference to the tournament, its organisers or its victims.
My earlier point was that it's not hypocritical - nor is it too late - for any of us to criticise it as we weren't responsible for awarding it. I refute the suggestion that we somehow share collective responsibility for it as we obviously have no influence in that regard.
Infantino's accusation of hypocrisy because of the crimes of our ancestors was a ridiculous and desperate attempt to justify FIFA's corruption.
Some people will refuse to watch a spectacle they disagree with, and others will watch knowing they're powerless to influence it, even if they think it's wrong.
Each to his own, and neither camp needs to condemn the other.

I have tried to be very careful whether I am condemning anyone and I don’t think I have

I have said from start that I not going into why I am not watching and that everyone has a right to turn it off or watch it

I don’t agree that not watching won’t alter anything - however in order for it to work it has to be a global thing and as such it is beyond our control.

all I can do is be happy in the skin that I am in with whatever decision I make and that is what I try to do.

As for the we I used I was referring to the west in general not any individuals or us on this website sorry gerrardsitchyear

I do hold with the idea that the Qatar World Cup has highlighted the hypocrisy of western society due to the corruption at the core of all this - and there is a general apathy in our culture that we cannot do anything about these kinds of matters

which is probably true - I am not trying to start a revolution, as I said Just trying to be happy in my own skin.

This is one of those where I have already posted a few too many comments on the matter than I had hoped but the forum is just irresistible <laugh>

    The trend is clear.

Qatar are up to it in eu too. Paying for access etc.

World cup was and is corrupt. Infantino must be investigated. Its quite hard hide all the cash and jewels.

Football in general will be rife with it if the merest peek u der the facade is made

This forum can be very funny sometimes in how posters are responded to and occasionally it's been hard not to take it personally. We are all individuals with individual thought. Very often we are on opposite sides of issues some of which we feel passionately about. We should feel 'safe' enough to discuss freely without being unfairly verbally attacked.

As you say, this place is irresistible (sometimes). I've learned, at my peril, not to be too open with my thoughts and observations on some issues, politics being one, as I'm put in a category/class of someone else's making that, as far as I'm concerned, is way off.

The problem with a forum, it's difficult to show your true tone.

In real life, I'm ****ing hilarious, on here I just come across as a bit of a ****.

I never express what I want to say properly, I've read back some if my comments and thought that's not what I meant at all, why have I written that.

Nuance is lost, tone is difficult to express.

Indeed. If you forget to add some inane smiley thing people seem to think things are said seriously.

I don't think it's hard to show your true tone because we all speak our minds on here and you can get a sense of what someone is about by what they say. Using emojis does help sometimes in case people think something meant as a joke, is taken seriously. They can express tone when a change in voice can't be translated into a different meaning by words alone. It is hard to get your real self across though because we are so much more than just our words.

Whenever I've said something and read it back and like you thought 'that didn't come out right' I've pm'd the individual to explain and I know you've done the same. I find others far more interesting than myself so I like to read more than I write on here.

I'm unsure how to add smiley faces, or the lad with a balaclava etc. I couldn't keep asking one if tge kids every time I comment to put something in.

They already view me as some sort of caveman, I'm not sure when I went from tec savvy to ****ing clueless but its happened.

I poke fun at you quite a bit, but it almost always in jest. The certainty you post with on nigh on every subject makes me laugh, mostly because it's the direct opposite if my havnt got a clue approach, but this us what I think now.

I'm well aware I can be a bit of a tit at times, I really don't like falling out with people on here. Most are cracker lads.

I'm similar that I'm happy having a read at times and not bothering to comment, but I'm also aware that if you don't comment the forum will slowly die.

Funny really, but as I said on tobes, I miss the the lad, I miss astro, when you don't post I wonder if things are OK. When Bumps was struggling I messaged him.

Zanj has sent me some lovely messages when I've been a bit ****ed up. Looked after me.

I expect its because its quite small, but I feel at times its quite a tight nit community

It's ace mate. I wish I could carry off something similar.

In fact the amount of times I post a rebuttal to something you've said, and straight after thought, that was a waste of time he doesn't care, is amazing.

It's what I loved about astro.

He'd post something outlandish, than obviously not give a **** that people disagreed with him. He'd drive some into an absolute slathering rage and never seem arsed.

I don't use emojis much in fact I never did until someone said one day that they can help if you don't want your comment taken seriously or just a thumbs up to indicate you've read the message if you have nothing else to add.

(If you want to experiment: when you are in the dialogue box typing a comment, go up to the top of the box and you will see a collection of symbols one of which is a little smiley face, click on it and it opens a collection of emojis, just click the one you want to use.)
