Based on? We lost that game by a goal. You were 11 like I was, and, using that thought process, Southgate would’ve won the World Cup had Kane not missed the penalty? Nobody knows what would’ve happened. They might have beaten us in extra time? Or on penalties? Or we may have lost the next game? Southgate has a better international record than Robson, and I loved Robson (met him a number of times too and he was a lovely bloke) but his club level is completely irrelevant too. A number of successful international managers have had completely irrelevantly club level careers.
Absolutely spot on. You watch a penalty rolled into the goal 4 feet from the post, keeper goes the wrong way it’s a “great penalty”. Next player steps up, puts the same power, direction etc on and it’s a poor penalty as the keeper goes the other way and comfortably saves it and, despite it being identical to the previous penalty, it’s a poor spot kick according to the same commentator. A penalty on target is enough fir me. No matter what the outcome. As a pub footballer, I took a few penalties and I never missed the target as a youngster. A professional footballer should be much better than I ever was, so missing the target never sits right for me either
As l see it and please shoot the poster. The refereeing has been very poor and l include all the officials. Players rule on the pitch too often with diving, pushing players off the pitch or in the air ( when did those law changes come in) so much more to add to that. I have always been jury out on Southgate, but have some sympathy in this world cup, who could have forecast Germany Spain Portugal Netherlands Belgium Brazil being knock out by teams like Morocco England did not they were narrowly beaten by France so on this occasion l will give the benefit of doubt All in all l have enjoyed the games and need Morocco to finish the job off and collect my winnings.
I’m certain we’d have demolished France with ease had we had a higher rate of turnover, receptions and ball spin rate .
what got me was the frogs pushing our player in the back to win the ball, and the ref allowing the cheating cnuts to get away with it ,it's effing football not rugby. ref should be made to come down hard on player pushing from the back as its the only way they have found to neutralise our better players, i felt apart from the first 20 mins we were the stronger team
A better anology than I made last night, pissed up and pissed off at the result I reckon. But yeah I totally agree with you, if the keeper saves than all credit should go to him, if the player brays over the bar then it's all down to him missing it m
It was a 50-50 game that basically hinged on that one moment. It's been questioned why Kane took both pens, end of the day he slots the 2nd on open he breaks a record and we may see a different outcome.
I agree, about missing the target. The goal measures 24ft by 8 ft. The ball is near enough 8 and a half inches. An area of 24ft by 8ft can hold almost 400 balls. If an international player misses the target it is a poor poor effort.
Knew I’d forgot one . Not surprising as I don’t think anyone knows what the hell they are , or whose idea. Commentators and pundits never mentioned them in analysis
All sounds American to me. Unforced turnover or whatever the ****! Also they seem very slow at showing replays that actually mattered.
About a week ago I said to a friend I think there will be a shock this world cup, and I still think so.
Just completed my own self enforced ban of 48 hours. I was emotional and out of order after Englands defeat. Apologies to those I picked out for criticism. I am so obsessed with world cups that I behaved like a twat. I am still hurting, and a lot. The lads are helping so far tonight mind. I need some medicine. Anyway, olive branch from me. Here is hoping Sunderland do the business and England win something in my lifetime. All I want.
