He's been getting smoke blown up his phony arse based on the easiest fixtures you'll ever get in major competitions for 3 tournaments running.
I blame Southgate for playing a conservative team, and following that up with two non-sensical subs near the end. But at least our players are coming back hopefully in one piece and Maddison hasn't scored a few worldies which would have seriously jacked up his price.
Gutted...as is normally the case. What I'd like to see now (moving on to NUFC) is us dominating the English league and taking it to the European clubs and torturing them...the French, Spanish, Italians, Germans. I will take a Chaos-esque pleasure in seeing their players and fans cry, the ****s.
the thing is.. whilst he plays at PSG in the farmers league he probably won’t win a CL trophy ever. He isn’t testing himself against other great players week in week out.
Should've won. Kane's penalty was so incredibly bad, just put it down the middle you thick cockney ****er. Then taking off Saka for ****ing Sterling, and turning to Mount - who has NEVER done anything for England - was pure Southgate. Gareth's a nice bloke, but I think the team needs someone who is a decent manager else we'll simply never win anything. Gareth's done ok with a team of really good, expensive, well paid players who absolutely SHOULD be getting to SF's and beyond, he's achieving bare minimum for me. Think it's time for a change, personally. Graham Potter could win a trophy with this group of players.
I don't understand the Southgate hate. The argument that we 'should be doing better' with this group of players just doesn't wash - we had a 'Golden Generation' in 2002-2010 who failed miserably, time after time. Southgate is doing far better, with players who are no better, and in some cases weaker, particularly at the back. We have won as many WC knockout matches under Southgate as we have in the previous 48 years. Why the **** would we jeopardise that? And, icing on the cake, he's a ****ing Englishman. If you can't have national pride when it comes to your national team, what's the point? England are not a club side who play together week in, week out. International football is littered with the failure of groups of highly talented individuals (Belgium, anyone?). Southgate gets England playing as a TEAM - for the first time in my lifetime. Yes that means he takes a long time to embed new players. Yes it means that he shows loyalty to those who have played well in the team before, even at the expense of in-form individuals. Yes it means that his substitutions can seem strange to those who just want to see the most exciting players on the pitch. Because he understands that Football is a team sport, and only sides that play as teams are able to win major tournaments. I've watched England improve over his tenure. They took the current - and most likely future - World Champions to the last kick of the game. That match would have been a worthy final. People complain about us beating minnows, and losing against the good teams. They don't realise that we play the good teams less often these days because we are higher in the seeding - thanks to the success of the team under Southgate. It's not like France didn't beat us back in 2004 under successful club manager Eriksson. Sack Southgate and take up a club manager based on success of a team he works with every day? Then prepare to watch us go back to ****ing up against the minnows again. Like we did against Norway in 1994. Romania in 1998 and 2000. Nigeria in 2002. Macedonia, Israel, & Russia in 2008. Algeria in 2010 (under successful club manager Capello). Costa Rica and Uruguay in 2014. Slovakia and ICELAND in 2016. And how Germany, Argentina, Belgium, Portugal, Brazil, Spain, and even France (!) have lost to minnows in this tournament alone. People have short memories.
I'd say his squad selections are boring and predictable. Can't understand why Maguire, Walker, Mount and Grealish made the squad. His over reliance on playing Harry Kane is hampering the tactical ability to change things up and hit teams with pace through the middle. He also plays a low pressing game that enables opposition players a chance to regroup and when you play someone half decent they will always be involved in a coin toss for the result.
Maybe, doesn’t change the fact he brought on Mason Mount and swapped our best player for Sterling who’d been in London all week!
