No excuses for Kane like, you just have to hit the target there.

May I make a suggestion...don't get involved. He's been very negative on what was a decent performance (by both teams). We were just edged out.

I don't know what's worse, the result or the "told you so" brigade.

Whatever happened to being together through thick and thin

And they missed a penalty. Golden opportunity to equalise.

It's a pattern of behaviour in high pressure matches. Easily identifiable. Same thing happened in 2018. Same thing happened in 2021.

Southgate's now had three goes at getting over this kind of hurdle and learned nothing.

Teams that win things are brutally honest about their failures and take ruthless action to remedy them - it's impossible to improve without doing that.

If you're happy to be an also-ran, then blame the ref, FIFA, whatever.

I know when tensions are high after a gutting defeat, i know, let's try and points score on a message board.

Every ****ing defeat be it England or Sunderland and it happens

Disappointed as we played well but genuinely didn’t feel we would beat France. I thought we would get beat 2-0. The wife said 2-1 (clever ****e). I don’t know what it is……we have a very good squad but we never seem to have those players that can turn a game. Bellingham has a very bright future but we need players of his potential across the team if we want to take that next step over the next 6-8 years

Some people have to be negative and find someone to blame in defeat. Southgate gave the people exactly what they wanted and they'll still find a way to blame him despite the team having more than enough chances to win the game.

It’s over now. I’m already looking forward to Monday night and the potential to move into the play offs with key players coming back. Exciting times ahead. Thanks for the distraction over the last few weeks England but how we do is more important to me

Ian Wright thinks it isn't a missed opportunity? We ****in blew it man. That penalty was on a golden platter as opportunities go. Kane clearly thought he had to switch it up and that's fine. But to say it wasn't a missed opportunity is ridiculous. And as for Neville saying he never played in a Quarters where we weren't as good as the opposition, that's bollocks, 1998 we were every bit as good as Argentina, then his mate got sent off.

Overall I thought we were ahead on points, but they scored the goals, we missed a penalty.. apparently in football goals count.

It’s been an odd World Cup with some strange results but that has to be a missed opportunity.

We start every game too slowly and are overly defensive considering the attacking players we have in the squad. I don’t know what the answer is but it’s getting a bit repetitive and half expected this failing at the last few hurdles. I hate how the press big everything up too as that can’t help the players.

On the game. Why the hell didn’t we push out when we cleared the ball just before they scored their second? And what was Maguire thinking letting Giroud get in front of him?

Anyway, hope Argentina lift the trophy for Messi and at least we can all concentrate on league football again from Monday.

Some people want England to win something.

Every time England played on the front foot - what I wanted -they caused the opposition massive problems.

When they played on the back foot - as the last three tournaments have proved Southgate wants - they conceded the goals that put them out of the tournament.

Who's to blame, it's a real puzzler. The FA love him though because he doesn't rock the boat, so enjoy defending going out in exactly the same way in 2024.

Anyone slagging Kane isn't thinking about the pressure in that moment, reckon facing his teammate had to add to it aswell.
