Haven't watched a game, but you have to admit there's been some football that would have been a great adornment to another place. England winning 6-2, Argentina and Germany going down to supposedly inferior opposition, or Spain hitting their stride early doors.

Watched Brazil last night. Second half they were very very good, proper Brazil.

By the sound of it, England are now 'same old England' after all those goals against Iran.

    Hi Ken & fellow members,

Just thought I would create a thread for comments & conversation related to England and the football being played at the World Cup Finals (rather than the politics). Hope nobody minds <ok>
Match-related chat regarding any of the competing teams is welcome.

I didn't watch the England v USA game, but the 0-0 result isn't much of a surprise.
Fine, England will beat Wales and win the group.
But they won't progress far unless they seriously up their game.
In either the Round of 16 or the QFs they will come up against a good team in form. And that will probably be that.

A fair number of fans booed England at full time, which I found quite bizarre. 2 or 3 weeks in Qatar without a drink must get to you I suppose.

Just for the hell of it I'm going to stick up for poor old Cristiano Ronaldo :emoticon-0103-cool:

Did he change the course of the ball? No.
Did it brush against his hair? I think it did (meaning he did touch it)
Would the 'keeper have saved the ball if Ronaldo had not been there bearing down on him? Quite possibly in my view.

So for me, that makes it Ronaldo's goal.

I think it more likely brushed his oversized ego or maybe clipped the massive chip on his shoulder- can’t stand the fella - :emoticon-0172-mooni :emoticon-0172-mooni:emoticon-0172-mooni

Was it this year or earlier that he hit a lob which was going in for a goal, when one of his Portuguese team-mates touched the ball in from close range. Poor Christian was visibly devastated that the goal went to a team-mate:emoticon-0106-cryin, and didn't celebrate the goal at all, quite the reverse.

Doesn't look to me as though a European team will win it this year.

    Short-list :1980_boogie_down:

    Brazil
    Spain
    France
    Argentina

    Outsiders :emoticon-0138-think

    England
    Japan
    Portugal
    Senegal

    Chokers <laugh>

    Germany
    Belgium
    Uruguay

Too crap even to get there :emoticon-0172-mooni

    Italy
    Russia

I wonder how long it will be before the World Cup is won by a nation that hasn't won it before :emoticon-0158-time:
    Don't rate England's chances.
The only times we've ever got to the Final of a major tournament it's been in this country.
Italia '90 was our high point for away campaigns in my view.
That was a proper World Cup Finals <applause>

I had a holiday in Morocco 11 years ago, loved the country, the people and the food. Well done the football team.

    Oh dear.
Heroic failure again. Better team lost according to the pundits etc...

No goals from open play. France got two.
And England have still never beaten a team ranked above them in a World Cup knockout game on foreign soil.
First time we aren't favourites, we blow it.

Of course, the FA's darling Gareth will be asked to stay on.
