I think that's me 3 rows back behind the goal with rattle in hand :emoticon-0102-bigsm

You might want to add a little red and white to the crowd joe as we all had scarfs back in those days.
Great picture of the DEll packed :emoticon-0169-dance

While I feel priviliged to have visited the dell in its last few years, my young age means I don't remember as much as I would like to :( truly an iconic stadium. Obviously we had to move on to the shiny new SMS, but I would swap it all back just for one game.

Well done old chap. Looking at how green the pitch is we must have had a really skilled groundsman in those days as well.

I remember the old power station in the background which was where ToysRUs is today and of course the cable works just beyond that.

I loved the Dell especially evening games when the atmosphere and the colours were marvellous.

I am not sure I would want to go back there now given the comfort at St Mary's (apart from the leg room) and the absence of the stench from the men's lavatories.

Love St Marys but those pictures take me back and remind me I'm getting old!

Used to love that ground, grew up watching Rod Wallace, Le Tiss, Glen Cockerill, Ruddock, Jimmy Case, Alan Shearer etc. By the sound of a few on here they've been watching Saints for a hell of a lot longer than I have! Makes me want to get my old official Saints season review videos out and watch the magic all over again. My wife is trying to make me sell them as they take up too much space!!!!

Good times! Always in a relegation battle last day of the season and always getting out of it. That ground was outdated and I'm glad we made the move but was so special and thanks for that trip down memory lane.

but cheers guys, I wish I could've been to more games at the dell but I was only 7 or 8 when we moved.

regardless, great memories, what a ground!

I would guess late '60's, from the size of the crowd probably Man U? I may well have been there!

Cheers Chilco. Just Wiki'd that to make sure I wasn't going mad! My first ever game was the season after they were redeveloped so no wonder I don't remember them.

Exactly the era I thought too. If it's against Man U, I may have been in the Archers. In 1969, I changed to the Milton end, as I no longer felt intimidated by the Milton Mob [I was only 10-11]. So if it's 1969 or afterwards, I was nearly always to be found anywhere over the Watneys Ales lettering, to the left of the goal, leaning against the wall, or behind the goal itself.

Good stuff. I have just unpacked my print of the painting showing Berkovic hammering one passed Schmeical at The Dell (just moved house) and hung it up on my boy's wall.

I'll have to find the box with the model of The Dell next.
