    PORTSMOUTH v NOTTINGHAM FOREST

NPower Championship, 5 November 2011 at Fratton Park

Link to BBC Sport Prieview: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_div_1/15504533.stm

    Last season:
    30 October 2010
    Pompey 2-1 Forest

Who are Ya? (some of this information is courtesy of wikipedia)
Forest are best known for the glory years under Brian Clough, in which they were league Champions in 1978 and European Champions two years running, in 1979 (after which they also won the Super Cup) and 1980. But they had their first taste of silverware way back in 1898, when they lifted the FA Cup.
Their most recent major trophy was won in 1992, when they won the Full Members Cup with a 3-2 win over Southampton.
In 1978, Forest defender Viv Anderson became the first black player to don the England shirt for a full international.
Highest League Finish: League Champions 1978
Lowest League Finish: 7th in League One in 2006 (although they finished bottom of the football league in 1914, when there were only two divisions)
    Honours:
1st Tier [Premier League] Champions 1978: Runners Up 1967, 1979
    2nd Tier [Championship] Champions 1907, 1922, 1998: Runners Up 1957, 1994: 3rd (promoted) 1977
3rd Tier [League One] Champions 1951: Runners Up 2008
FA Cup Winners 1898, 1959: Runners Up 1991
    League [Carling] Cup Winners 1978, 1979, 1989, 1990: Runners Up 1980, 1992
Charity [Community] Shield Winners 1978: Runners Up 1959
Full Members Cup Winners 1989, 1992
European Cup [Champions League] Winners 1979, 1980
European Super Cup Winners 1979: Runners Up 1980
    Intercontinental Cup Runners Up 1980

    Yesteryear
20 March 1926, Second Division [Championship]
    Pompey 5-1 Forest
Forest’s first league visit to Fratton Park wasn’t a happy one for them as they went down to their joint highest defeat of the season.

    Nottingham Forest League finish:
5 years ago (2006-07): 4th in League One (Play Off semi finals)
    10 years ago (2001-02): 16th in Div 1 [Championship]
15 years ago (1996-97): 20th in Premier League (relegated)
20 years ago (1991-92): 8th in First Division [Premier League]
25 years ago (1986-87): 8th in First Division [Premier League]

    Random Fact:
Forest were the last side (in 1978) to win the League Title the season after being promoted.

Current odds (Friday Lunchtime) from SkyBet

    POMPEY: 11/8
    FOREST: 2/1
    DRAW: 23/10

  2. Dev, what are ticket sales like for this game? I'm guessing it is keenly anticipated given the return of SC.

Anyway, good luck for the game.

Being a few thousand miles away I don't know about ticket sales, but I would imagine SC's return might put 1,000 extra on the gate.

It's one of those games we need to be winning at home so I reckon, all in all, it's going to be a pretty nervy atmosphere on the pitch.

It's one of those games that I'm looking forward to being at - so will be looking for a win or a draw! <ok>

Not a sell-out in terms of tickets, but decent all the same.

It will be an ideal opportunity for Pompey to prove that they are better off with no manager than they were with SC!

    :emoticon-0103-cool: I hope I won't!

Have got my tickets for the Saints game as well so hoping my luck continues for a lot longer yet. <ok>

I was reading a post on the Saints forum where they were being berated for not attending a match last week - one of the posters said every time he goes they lose, do they really want him to attend? It's nice to have the opposite effect.

But be ready with tea and sympathy the day I experience my first loss. :emoticon-0162-coffe

Oh I had that problem that when I saw Saints they lost, but <doh> it was my shirt that was to blame!
Once I bought a later model our form was much improved and has been sensational since I bought the latest replica shirt. There you are.
I suppose the quality of the players and management have a minor effect as well, but it's mostly down to me <ok>

It's all down to lamp posts, which I discussed, at length, on 606 once.

It is an interesting one. When an old manager returns often the team he has left prevails, however I just feel Forest will sneak it. People are saying Michael Appleton is going to be Portsmouth's new manager, any reaction.

Great details Devon by the way :).

Good result, had a feeling SC wouldn't have a good return today.
