Sounds like it was an end to end game ....one for the neutrals. Not sitting out here watching live updates on the computer. 3 points....well done guys.
Until today, we'd only let 4 in at home all season......almost doubled that in an afternoon. One for Hess to ponder.
At least we won, but I would rather 1-0 or 2-1, But a win is a win, the defence is worrying, needs to be sorted like we done with the attack that is good now, so that is an area of development, but I could not outright say who is at fault.
Born Again - behave yourself! Came home from the game, looked on here to see some of the comments (not speaking of Born Again here) and I speak purely as a fan that was there, to say I am completely dismayed by a few comments on here. So just my opinion but a hard earned 3 points today and an exciting encounter, forget about the defence and the lack of clean sheets today, it was end to end stuff and we won the battle. Windy was right in stating we got our money's worth today.
exciting game that nearly killed me. think overall we deserved the points, could have easily scored another 4 goals today. also thought we played so much better without rooney in the starting line up. main point yet again poor ref
I assume you were talking the comments expressing our disappointment at the performance and throwing away the lead early in the second half. While I can accept your view of the game I feel that being at the ground you can get swept away in the emotions and the last minute winners will give you more of a high and the emotional release will (for want of a better word) "rosier" you view of the result. Sitting at home watching / listening on the Gills player you get to take a more detached view of the game. From my point of view we played a medicore Northampton side who have been on a poor run of form and we struggled to beat them and on the balance of play, looking at the stats, probably deserved to lose. For a team heavily tipped for promotion this should be a game we should be winning at a canter. I think that is probably the reason behind the differing of opinions, and as always the truth probably lies somewhere between the two
Fair enough view BSG, however, in such an open game you are going to concede goals, their number 9 Berahino was absolutely lethal when on the ball, also the number 2 Young was a handful. Basically the shear pace coming at us, certainly end to end stuff. We can pull the defence to bits but imo watching the game it was about a lot more than that, one conclusion I did come to though, was Northampton deserve a lot of respect, I certainly cannot understand their current league position. I will disagree on one thing though, that is you don't take a detached view on Gills player but a commentators one. No disrespect to your views, just differing ones, which make for good debate. ps. save me creating another thread, Kedwells penalty, apologies in advance for the quality... Going forward this Northampton side were as good as any I've seen this year, like us they are defensively very poor and once Richards went off injured there were no defenders left.
Both teams could have conceded many more than they did ! - in the 2nd half the Northampton keeper pulled off a couple of great saves - and of course before any of the goals Frampton put in a super block to stop a certain goal. Definitely a match for the neutrals. - with some of the defending from both teams, you could say that in the end neither side deserved to win ! ( always want Gills to win ) On another point - the referee was very expressive to initially say that the 2nd penalty was not a foul -despite being closer to the incident than the linesman who nearly wore out his flag to signal otherwise. And how come the relevant defenders were not red carded - last man etc. Any way UTG
Fabulous entertainment for which both teams deserve a lot of credit but any neutral would realise that Gills could easily have lost. The cobblers had several outstanding players but it was easy to see weaknesses that explain their league position. Playing three centre backs just does not work for the Gills especially with an absence of defensive interest in midfield. 3-1 was a flattering half time score for the Gills and it could easily have been the other way round. But Flitney made some good saves Jackman was a cut above the rest and Kuffour scored a great hattrick before disappearing for the second half. It was interesting that Kedwell was the only one with the balls to take a crucial penalty. Another hard earned 3 points in the bag.
I agree that the Cobblers are very good going forward.. You could not help but notice we are a little flat on pace at the back but the defence is geared to deal with the aerial threat that is posed by most teams in league two. I get the feeling our team still has not quite gelled but isnt far off now. Nouble and Kuffour were sensational today it would be a dream to be able to keep them ..very pleased today much better than last week at Morcambe
what a game, super forward play poor defences, so many emotions and a last min pen. It always looked like we would conced goals today, don t play our best centre half as full back please. Ithought Hess said he was not afraid to play young Evans at full back if Fish was struggling, i also thought we were over run in midfield again with only Jackman playing well. What has happened to Flintly today he was lucky after spilling the ball so often, afterall he was m.o.m in our last home match. Full credit to Kedwell to take the last min pen, that was hero or villian stuff.
