    on england's first innings:
    * england's second highest away innings and highest against pakistan.
    * england scored at 6.50 runs per over. it's the highest run rate for any innings of 100 or more overs. the previous best was sri lanka's 555/5 against bangladesh in 2001 when they scored at 5.36. england's scoring rate wasn't just a bit faster, it was 21.3% faster.
    * england scored 398 in boundaries, their highest ever in an innings.
    * harry brook's 150 took 115 deliveries. it's the 4th quickest in all tests, and england's quickest, beating ben stokes' record that took 135. that's 20 off the record. the fastest was 103 by england coach brendon mccullum.
    * when brook hit six fours off an over before reaching his hundred, he equalled ian botham's record. but later he took 27 off the 83rd over to set a new england record.
    * pakistan bowler zahid took 4 for 235 off 33 overs. that's the most runs conceded by a bowler on test debut. zahid went for 7.12 per over. it's the most for any bowler that had contributed 25 overs in an innings. the previous most was 6.15.

    Another two odd stats;
Barbar scored the quickest ever hundred for Pakistan in a test. It was only the fifth quickest of this test!

We scored three of the quickest nine centuries by an Englishmen in the history of test cricket! The fourth was also somewhere in the top twenty too!

Ridiculous when test cricket is nearly 150 years old.

Oh and unsurprisingly considering his philosophy, McCullum, our Manager (or whatever he is called) holds the record for the fastest century ever in test history.

I think we can safely say it is a good batting pitch in Rawalpindi.

Bloody hell, after only getting the second fastest century by an Englishman in the first innings, looks like Brooks is having a go in the second innings!
For most teams, this would be at a tricky time too. Six wickets down, one bat hobbling, 3 tailenders to follow, and just 320 ahead on a road of a pitch with plenty of time left in the game. This team just carries on going for it, at 7.5 runs per over!

…bloody hell, that is a ridiculous declaration. Left Pakistan 343 to win off around 100:eek:vers on a road and with one of our bowlers injured and the others barely rested. Feels almost suicidal, but Stokes/McCullum do seem to ignore the risk of losing to,try to get a win. Has anyone told them this isn’t how test cricket is suppose to be played.

A very brave call, if they go on to win, it will be a masterstroke, if lose foolhardy decision.

not trying to be picky, but i know you'll want the stats spot on: brook's century (off 80) is the 3rd fastest for england, behind gilbert jessop (76) and johnny bairstow (77, earlier this year v nz).

Fantastic captaincy from Stokes to get a result out of this game.

England 168 ahead, 7 wickets left, and it's only day 2! This new spinner Pakistan have found is causing all sorts of problems but at the moment it looks like another England win is on the cards.

Another good day for England, Harry Brook again showing what a great prospect he is 74 NO with Stokes 16 NO, going into tomorrow with a 280 lead on 202-5.

baffled at the tactics for fast bowlers by england in this game. anderson in particular. 11 overs he's bowled and taken 1 for 16 and 1 for 8. weird.

to my mind, if a bowler takes a wicket in an over, you keep him on for at least one more, especially with a new batsman at the crease.

Don’t need to save runs there’s as much time as Pakistan want, but also enough time for wicket taking. Good wicket at the end roll on Monday - cracking cricket tho
