sorry to hear that mate hope you can get a full recovery and back to your good old ways (being an auld crusty)
This is a great example of how far the team has come in such a short space of time. At the start for the season it was "very pretty at times, job half done, 1 point". Winning ugly is positive trait, especially when you can make it look emphatic by the score in the way that we did.
Hope your health gets better soon. Totally agree with your post. Typical Millwall, typical Championship game but we are learning how to get the three points. The game was on over here on ESPN so got to see it live. As you said take the result and move on.
First half they came at us first 20/25 mins giving everything to try and get the first goal. Lots of possession and press forcing us into errors and they had us pinned in a bit. They were unable to maintain that tempo and we grew into the game, we had the ball in some good areas but too often it was an extra touch or delaying the final ball and it meant the chances were at a premium. Big moment at the end of the half from the pass out error, Flemming had a lot more time than he realised and made a balls of it. Second half we came out looking to play earlier and faster and it made such a difference, resulting in the first goal. Good work from Pritchard, lovely flick (hes trying to score isn't he?!) from Simms and then Diallo is on hand to tap it in. Dan Neils header off the line two mins later was as good as a goal then we get the second, Gooch instrumental in the build up and Pritch picked his spot. They huffed as puffed without posing much threat - I thought we defended it brilliantly. Big error at the end and Simms gets his goal, much deserved - how good was he second half?! Good result for us, they looked awful for starting the day in 6th mind.
That was an ugly game. Determination and digging in were the order of the day and we made a bit of extra skill count. Ref was awful Millwall will overpower a lot of teams this season but we stood firm. Well done Sunderland
They reminded me of a few for the League One teams we played last season - just launching it into the box all of the game. We defended really well for most of the game and got lucky when it didn't quite go to plan.
