    Always felt this is a weird thing, the same as corners, surely some part of the ball should be touching the line. I know it’s not the way it is but always seems wrong

    Possibly but it's the rule. If they'd disallowed it incorrectly the Germans would have been through on an incorrect decision, possibly go on to win the thing. Now that would have been wrong
