I always remembered that game, and yet we didn't have sports channels like we have today. The last of the real underdogs qualified for that campaign. Haiti and Zaire.
Really disappointed that Mexico missed out as Poland were absolute dogshit. Also not sure why the Saudi Arabia goal was relevant as all Mexico needed to do was to score a 3rd goal to go through on goals scored. Everyone seemed to think it was a hammer blow, which is wasn't to anyone who understands the rules. Even the Mexico players seemed deflated by conceding as well....3-1 and Mexico go through, same as 3-0.
But they didn't score three goals, so your point is a moot one. So you can say 3-1 and 3-0 as many times as you like, but saying it don't win games bruv, is that how you got promoted from the Championship?
We tried to bottle it as usual but West Brom bottled it more and we then fell over the line...or something like that Not sure if you watched the Mexico game but they still had a chance to go through and I don't think they fully realised that.
I only saw the last two minutes of ET, after I switched over frrom the Argy game. To be fair Poland should have been absolutely spanked - not sure if the Polish manager intended to be a defensive dick, much like when Southgate has his moments.
Poland stank the place out tonight and are now easy meat for the French. Whereas Senegal impressed me with their more open, expansive style and it could be a thriller against England on Sunday.
I did wonder if the Argies were going to cheat near the end, and sit back and let Poland go through, but Messi had different ideas, seems him and Lewandoski were not as close as the latter took for granted.
We will beat Senegal, then France in Q/F then Portugal in S/F and then Brazil in the final where we win 23-22 on pens.
I only watched Senegal in their first game but they looked disorganised to me. Played as individuals in that game. They are a physical team but seemed a bit naive in that game. It will be tough but England 'should' really be beating sides like Senegal.
