Disgraceful. Absolutely shambolic. Do FIFA just want Messi and Ronaldo to score? Both had ridiculous penalties now. I have a bet on Argentina but glad he missed that.
Because he barely touched him. Contact isn't a foul. It needs to be enough contact to actually effect the player and put him at a a disadvantage.
Plus players get hit loads of times after taking a shot without getting a pen. The ball was well gone by the time they came together.
At the end of the day he caught him in the face. If he'd given a pen on the field then fine, it would have been very soft but at least the on field ref gave it. We're going into the VAR re-refereeing the match and I don't like it at all.
TBH, I think we should bin VAR for everything except offside. And any penalties or red cards given on the field the ref automatically goes to the monitor and views a replay without anyone else's involvement. You'd still get penalties missed that weren't awarded and red cards that should have been given not given but you wouldn't get any penalties unjustly awarded or players wrongly sent off. And it wouldn't take very long. Having someone else scrutinise these subjective calls is just ruining the game.
Chilco, I don't think anyone (else) has replied to you, so this is my understanding: Griezman was in an offside position, then moved into an onside position, before the ball was headed back for him to shoot. So he wasn't offside when he kicked the ball, but he came back from an offside position 'in the same phase of play', which meant that (after VAR intervened) the goal was disallowed for offside.
