Never rented, our house had a revolving door of ****ty 2nd hand tvs until one day Dad came home with a brand new colour TV the size of a mini , he swapped it for a car , a beautiful Austin Westminster, we had to make do with a ****ty HA Viva van that broke down every other lamp post

 

I was re-watching Ken Burns 'Story of Country Music' last night and am a big rockabilly fan. Waltzing Matilda by Johnny Cash...?...not so much.

 

Johnny Cash is as close as I get to country music, oh and Bobbie Gentry.

As Ronnie Scott used to say. "There are only two types of music I don't like..... Country .. pause And Western.

 

Country and Western is the home of great song titles, I've never gone to bed with an ugly woman but have woke up with a few

 

The titles I like, it's the twanging guitars!

 

It and the blues spawned rock 'n roll. I'm not a fan of Countrypolitan stuff from the 70's, but a mate turned me on to Hank Williams in the 80's and Elvis Costello's 'Almost Blue' confirmed my fate. Basically, I like simple music with heart.

 

This also put me off a lot of music

 

Yes Country Blues I like. But here is the beginning of Rock and Roll in the 40's

Country with a leaning to bluegrass , later jonny Cash, Emmalou Harris, Linda Ronstadt ,Hank William's, Bobby Gentry and lots of alt country
