You seem to have a more relaxed view of this than I have. The **** should have received a far stiffer sentence for ruining people’s lives trough his selfish, inconsiderate stupidity. Not for me, whatever the offence. I go for a whole of life sentence. I have a cunning plan for those advocating the death penalty. Have a referendum and note the names of those voting for it. At the first miscarriage of justice put their names in a ballot, and the 'winner' gets put to death. Fair's fair.
Maybe do the same for those saying it is safe to release people who go on to kill, rape or commit serious offences. Give them the same as the next sentence handed down? It was said when the death penalty was abolished that life would mean life. It hasn’t.
I would take that, there would be millions voting to bring back the death penalty. The odds of getting picked would be miniscule.
Since the introduction of whole life sentences in 1983 approximately 100 have been given such a sentence. Short life sentence details seem to be harder to find, by 2006 53 people given life served less than 6 years including 1 who only did 15 months
