Weatwood looks a very good keeper, confident, comanding, shot stoppe and in the air

amazing double save. I've said all season that this guy is our number 1. If he played from the start we could of won more... mainly the Newcastle match.

Does he have good positional sense? Does he command the box? Those are the areas Mig sometines falls down on (and Gordon on the command thing) I think.

I've been calling for Westwood for 5 or so games now, and a nasty blow to the nose for Mig has allowed us to see what we may have been missing. A confident and assured piece of goalkeeping, no chance with the Brown header, and a fabulous double save. That WILL be on MOTD as the only real highlight of Sunderland's players !! Well on the upside, we did stop a Man Utd player from scoring ..........

I'm looking forward to driving down for Fulham game in 2 weeks to see us get a vital win (optimistically) although Larson will be a miss.

I actually thought the first one was in so to get the second was, like you say, montyesque. We have a new No1.

He was quality and its not up to him to keep his place, no.1 for now.

Time to let Gordon go I think. Get his wages off the books and as much as we can for him in Jan. Then it free's up money for a striker which we desperately need.

How would Westwood have done against Stoke away last season? Gordan got bullied and it ain't Mig's strong suit, not only does he command his area, he's also got great shot-stopping reflexes *.

Footnote: * and he can see past the halfway line

Dont forget. We have junior internationals a-plenty in reserve for that position.

Lets not get too far ahead of ourselves, I remember being at the Man City game at home and Mig made that save from Adebayor and I was declaring him as the next Jimmy. The 7pints helped justify my claim however getting back to the OP, lets judge Westy after a 10games or so.

    Gordon still No1 for me.
Westwood is much better than Ming though.

IF silly money came in for Gordon at least we would still have Westwood.

I honestly think we could sell Mig and Flash and be ok. Goalkeepers we have comin out of SAFC's lugs. Its strikers we need. Offer Wenger 1 of 4 of them plus a few bob for the Danish Prince,,,,,

I was impressed with westwood also. apart from the double save and good handling he also likes to roll the ball Out to our players instead of hoofing up field like mig does

Perhaps you would enlighten me as to how his inclusion would have meant you won the derby?

we have got 3 good goalkeepers in our squad and that can only be a good thing.

Westwood now has his chance and its up to him to take it and fend off Gordon and Mignolet when they come back into the fold for the number 1 Jersey.

He has had a good start, the save from Bent last week and a few of his saves today were class esp. the double save

Little bit hypocritical when you have top goalkeeper Seb Larsson in your team is it not MR?
