Strange that. I listened to both of them on Youtube, and each time it then came up with "PNP recommends this" :
What's with the bored grannies in the audience and varnished Mr Bean? I think that the only modern French music I own is by Alcest and Gojira: Maybe it's from having watched this a few times?
Last night, Sky Arts screened the film 'Oil City Confidential'. I'd seen and enjoyed it before, as it's a very open and honest appraisal of their career but enjoyed it again. What I hadn't noticed was that the incidental music was supplied by JC Carroll of The Members, recently described by Ian Hislop as 'The T S Eliot of Punk'. Maybe I'm not too old too learn... Anyway, this morning I'll mostly be pulling large amounts of electric lizard green hair out, as I try to buy Damned tickets for 3 different venues, all going on sale st the same time.
Managed to secure Damned tickets for Southend, Brighton and Ally Pally after A LOT of frustration and swearing, as the site kept freezing and kicking me out on timing. Could do with a lie down after all that excitement. ...and having bought tickets for an inconvenient Thursday night at Ally Pally, the venue have announced a Friday night gig. That's a real pisser....as it's the best part of another £100 to go to that. Over 3 hours later, the added date still isn't on the band's website... Over 8 hours later...and it's still not on the band's website! Fans online questioning whether it's a real date. It'd better be or I've spent £92 on nothing!
Off to see London Calling tonight. We received a message that the support band aren't playing because people are more interested in watching the football... I'm reasonably pissed off over this. My sister's bloke wanted to see the support act and The Clash played Brixton the night of the '82 WC Final and indicated that if it proved necessary, they'd have a large screen behind the band and play at the same time. Good idea in my view.
Nick Drake died on this day in 1974 ,such a loss to music ,he died not knowing how he would be loved ,a sublime talent who only made 3 albums in his life but later loved by so many
I am big fan, particularly of Bryter Later it's a wonderful collection of songs, another one of those artists that my association with Mr Weller brought to my attention. Talented family with his sister being the rather lovely Gabrielle
I first heard of him on the island compilation album " Bumpers" but it was hard to find any of his music back then , as you said PW and John Martyn championed him and all of his music was released on CD to be rediscovered again , such a talent and a loss to music
Finally recovered from Friday night's fun - too much post-gig drinking. Met Steve, who I haven't seen in about 15 years, whose dad worked for the Ramones in the UK and is a Spurs ST holder and a properly good bloke. The sister I went with is only 35 years old, 25 years my junior! Her new man, who came with us, is nearer 30. He likes modern punk/goth acts, but his dad was a BIG Clash fan and he was keen to get into the pit and mix it with the old men. I can't last a whole gig in that mayhem. I tend to drift into it and out again. So, right at the end of their sets, he says "Shirts off and back in..." ...nobody, including me wants to see me, leaping about, sweating heavily, with my top off. It was a fabulous night. The venue had sold out and EVERYONE was up really for it and chatting to 'Mick' after, the band said agreed was one of the best gigs that they'd ever played and it really showed. They're fixing up some further gigs, to include The 100 Club and 229 The Venue and I'd heartily recommend them.
We caught the last 10 minutes in the pub beforehand....the assembled masses informed us that we'd missed nothing! I'm losing interest in this world cup right now.
Nix & The Nothings' first album came out just over a week ago...and it's an absolute belter. If you have any love for psychedelic rock with a hint of the macabre and Naz Nomad & The Nightmares/The Cramps, this is for you...Personally, I love them. Enjoy!
The confusion surrounding The Damned Friday night, Ally Pally gig continues nearly a week after they surreptitiously (incorrectly?) went on sale. There's no mention of the gig on the website for the band or the venue (both of which are advertising the Thursday night). Ticketmaster, who are selling Thursday night tickets, aren't selling Friday tickets. Only Eventim were selling them...but if you click on the link for them, it no longer exists....very strange. I've had the money deducted from my card and have an email confirmation of my booking for Friday 21 April...but mates can't get hold of them. I've had plenty of tickets for gigs that didn't go ahead. I'm racking my brains to remember previously having bought tickets for a gig that may never have existed in the first place....
Saints preserve us.... please log in to view this image I trust that there will be some support on this tour?
