Never fear. Always plenty of idiots manage to maim themselves for life around this time of year. It's a good way of identifying morons.

...the tradition is to burn an effigy of the current Pope whoever that may be. Anyway, I'm not sure anyone does the Pope these days, that's why people burn Guy so as not to O'ffend. Many different effigies are burnt these days and people who organise events may look for a different idea each year hence the caravan which also caused O'ffence.

I wasn't having a go. I know it may have come across that way, I was just trying to think why someone might have a legitimate grievance against the current Pope. And that is the only thing I can think of. Obviously anybody burning effigies of the Pope purely due to their dislike of the Catholic church is an idiot. Apologies if I came across as bigoted, I'll leave that to the experts.

why do you spell offended wrong? I take it this is not an accident.
They burn an effigy in Lewes.

I am aware that this has largely lost all meaning and that by and large the english are a very tolerant bunch.
Thank goodness bigots like you are few and far between<ok>

I don't mind JJS. I know that most people don't particularly know or care why this practice happens. There isn't really a reason at all any more, just that the english med dog is trying to cosy up to the bigots. It is very unflattering.

There was nothing Medroesque about any of my posts. We English have been burning effigies of the Pope for hundreds of years. I am not personally responsible for that and I can see that some people would find it unacceptable, however, they or their parents or grandparents chose to come to a country where this happens. I don't like to see dogs killed for food but I'm not planning on moving to Korea to start telling Koreans not to do it.

It was very Med Dog like.

"Hey everyone, what do you think about a certain hateful practice that nobody has really considered to be hateful....even though it absolutely is? I think it is great fun. It does have broader consequences but I am going to pretend they don't matter"

    ensue madness.

The only difference is that Med Dog has an exemplary record of choosing things that folk give a **** about.

He sold out to a pair of Paddies Gambol. What kind of sons of Britain are you guys churning out these days?

There's one coming to my house later believe it or not for a Guy Fawkes Night party. Better hide the family silver.
