But they aren’t, Foden has decent performances in his career by his standards that would be Mount’s best. No one’s saying he’s the answer they’re just saying why isn’t a player of that calibre who we don’t have anyone else like not getting a game when we play 90 minutes and create **** all
Probably created **** all cos it was the banana skin tie of the group and all we needed was to avoid defeat to stay on track to go through top of the group... In that context I would have set us up for a clean sheet first and foremost - especially showing the defensive frailties against Iran where we went for it. We're no more or less likely to win the cup after the USA game than we were following the Iran game. Some reactions and bile spouted are just ridiculous. Avoid losing to Wales by 4 goals and we're through. Job done. Calm down.
Foden came on against Iran and gave the ball away practically every time he received it. That’s why he didn’t play against USA I would think.
That just isn't true and this is exactly the overrating I'm talking about. You're inflating one player's capabilities and playing down the rest, because he's the current flavour.
Think I watched a different game. Foden had a good spell when coming on. Each to their own view of course.
It really isn’t. Southgate benching Foden would be like France benching Mbappe. He’s the most technically-gifted and talented player in the whole England squad and he’s sat on the bench playing second fiddle to a player like Mount who isn’t half as talented.
I’m not overly familiar with how Man City have been setting up recently, but are Foden and Mount even competing for the same positions? Foden has never struck me as someone who you would play as an out and out midfielder, he’s much more attacking, whereas that’s exactly what Mount is doing? It’d be interesting to see Foden as part of the forward line, but I think Saka and Sterling deserved to start against the US and you’re not dropping Kane. Id like to see Foden against Wales though.
To be fair I would have at least brought Foden on against the US. I think that’s a bigger problem than not starting him.
Yep, this is the point. Anyone who pays a bit of attention will have known before the tournament started that Foden wasn't going to start in midfield. There was a chance he'd start ahead of Sterling but Sterling was always favourite because of his track record for England. I much prefer Foden to Sterling as a player personally but I think Southgate likes having out and out wingers. Foden seems to sit in an awkward spot where he's not really a winger but that's the only position he regularly plays for his club.
This one gets me as well. That's been Kane's game for the last 5 years or so, and he's very good at it. But whenever Tottenham or England lose people always say it's because he was dropping too deep. It's what he always does!
I don’t envy Southgate because he’s got so much attacking talent but limited positions to use them and it’s clear from the start he’s always said tournaments are to navigate and not to try and blast through.
And what has foden done to be as vital to england as mbappe Who has 7 world cup goals already to his name And he is the best in the world
think you must be on the white lightening to compare foden not playing for england to mbappe not playing for france
