Yeah exactly!...and, I just think that the players and the fans are the most important part of World tournaments, not the Governing Body. If players rebel, other teams will follow. If teams decide not to play, the tournament would simply colapse..
The German's are planning on wearing the OneLove armband on Sunday, not too sure on the reasoning why they didn't yesterday v Japan.
I used to admire him, making millions, driving the best cars, travelling the world, shagging Nicole sherzinger, now I just think he’s a bellend
I might be wrong, but I think it is down a legal case they have raised. They wont wear it unless the legal case is won. CAS have a committee in Qatar, for the world cup, that can adjudicate on complaints withon 48 hours. It is with them, and they hope to get a positive outcome ahead of the next game.
I think it may be that FIFA back down, or CAS rule against them. I can see them being worn, but not without the threat of yellow cards or worse still in play. When teams are playing their last game, who knows what they will do. You might see a whole team wearing them.
I really think that a full squad, and staff, will all wear them at some point....especially if that team reaches the quarter finals or further...They authorities will be too fearful of displining and putting a team at a disadvantage before kick-off.......this would cause chaos, and potential riots. I also think that if a team does get disciplined before a kick-off, the opposing team would almost certainly protest on behalf that team too..
Just my opinion but it is a shame that this hardliners stance was not taken when this world cup was handed to Quatar, but to be honest most countries back then would probably left England out in the cold as they would have seen it as sour grapes maybe this will wake up Fifa but going by Infantino it seems that they are incapable of upsetting the host nation
It is exactly when something should have been done mate. There were dissenting voices about Russia and Qatar, it had enough people calling foul. Since then so much has been proven and so many people lost jobs. However, nobody would grasp the nettle and reverse the decisions. Instead we are left 7 capatains of football countries being called bottlers and worse. It is shameful these teams have been hung out to dry. I hope there is a collective spirit that extends beyond the 7 after this tournament. Questions need to be asked of European nations not involved. Why have France distances themselves from it? Platini isnt around anymore? What about USA - expected them to be pushing for something. After the tournament there needs to be a reckoning, but if it is a lonely 7 it wont go very far.
If kanes injury is a problem and he is doubtful to play all of our games if we qualify from the group, maybe he should wear the armband as the consequences would be negligible? Then again, as injured concussed players have already proven during this tournament, no player would want to miss any opportunity to play.
I agree with most of the points here about leaving FIFA but I'd be interested to know how much of the views we've heard are Eurocentric. I'm not sure the rest of the world stands with us on this. For most, FIFA has done wonders for their national teams since 1978. It's worth noting, that the before then, the last English president of FIFA (Sir Stanley Raus) backed South African apartheid and was prepared to split the CAF federation just to allow them to play (they were banned by CAF). He had to back down when the whole of Africa threatened to leave FIFA and in the next election, the presidency left Europe for the first time. During the Raus years, there were 16 teams at a world cup -13 of which were European or South American with just 3 going to the entire rest of the world. I think reform is necessary as is transparency. FIFA need a presidency which rotates around federations every 4 years, and a strict set of rules which must be met before a country is even considered to host a world cup. Reform would be better than quitting in my opinion. The World Cup is much better for having more inclusivity.
So far 4 of 16 games have ended goalless when in the previous tournament there was only 1 goalless game. Probably highlighting we need Kane to be fit and play as much as possible.
