You keep talking about being partisan. There's one PM, there's one government and there's one party responsible for what's happening. They've had twelve years of power, the last few totally unopposed which have been a shambles. I criticise whichever bunch are in power, if it's deserved. You seem locked into blaming anyone but the government ... ... if it's not the opposition you'll blame anyone from the public to the newspapers. Automatically defending everything is pretty vacant tbh.
Wanting to know why things happen and why decisions are made is not defending. Or partisan. Automatically and gleefully gulping down whatever you're fed if it's what you want to believe is. We won't hear a peep from you when Labour is in power. Except for an insistence that it's irrelevant, of course.
I posted a direct quote of something that actually, and undeniably, happened. In one line you, once again, blame the public and the media ... ... no need for me to say anything else when you're so clearly proving my point. Take it easy, football just starting.
You posted the headline of a paywalled article. Perhaps you could demonstrate your understanding of how Sunak came to this decision and what factors affected the decision for us.
You only speak for yourself unless you're the elected spokesman for a forum group I'm unaware of ... ... if you believe the FT are feeding people lies that's up to you. I posted a headline and an opinion, I don't have to explain or prove anything to you or anyone else. The same story is on endless media, from Bloomberg to Reuters, if you want details and explanations it's there. But you don't. Right now, it's Switzerland v Cameroon and this is a football site, take it easy.
So you don't understand it then. You just saw the words Tory and U- Turn and went for it. Not partisan though no siree. It doesn't appear to be on Bloomberg or Reuters. Anyway, the football's on.
Just about sum up my feelings too. As for those who gain from PPE or Furlough at expense of the tax paying ordinary people are just scumbags.
Boris Johnson's legacy seems to be set in stone ... ... even high ranking people just keep finding new ways to call him a liar "“We know that the very entertaining former prime minister always has a unique relationship with the truth; this case is no exception,” the official said. Miguel Berger, the German ambassador to the UK, backed the dismissal of Johnson’s account". The details aren't really the issue, it's that so many people show no hesitation or respect in branding a recent British Prime Minister such a liar ... ... who's reaction is usually just to pile in with a few more lies.
Unfecking believable Jeff https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...-vip-lane-ppe-firm?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other The Conservative peer Michelle Mone and her children secretly received £29m originating from the profits of a PPE business that was awarded large government contracts after she recommended it to ministers, documents seen by the Guardian indicate. Lady Mone’s support helped the company, PPE Medpro, secure a place in a “VIP lane” the government used during the coronavirus pandemic to prioritise companies that had political connections. It thensecured contracts worth more than £200m. Documents seen by the Guardian indicate tens of millions of pounds of PPE Medpro’s profits were later transferred to a secret offshore trust of which Mone and her adult children were the beneficiaries. The leaked documents, which were produced by the bank HSBC, appear to contradict that statement. They state that Mone’s husband, the Isle of Man-based financier Douglas Barrowman, was paid at least £65m in profits from PPE Medpro, and then distributed the funds through a series of offshore accounts, trusts and companies. The ultimate recipients of the funds, the documents indicate, include the Isle of Man trust that was set up to benefit Mone, who was Barrowman’s fiancee at the time, and her children. In October 2020, the documents add, Barrowman transferred to the trust £28.8m originating from PPE Medpro profits. That was just five months after Mone helped PPE Medpro secure contracts to supply masks and sterile gowns for use in the NHS. She needs locking up.
I dont think many would defend him. His record speaks for itself. Even the effective things that happened on his watch are largely assumed to be in spite of him, not because of him, which wont be universally true I suspect. He is also very newsworthy of course, which probably does more to help him, and his future endeavours, than it does remedy any of our challenges. UK Prime Ministers, certainly in modern times, have a remarkable (distatsteful?) record of bouncing from the role of PM to becoming public speakers / advisors and the like, and in some cases earning fortunes. I find it quite disturbing, and some of the stories, if they are to be believed, are a cause for concern. I would rather there was less talked of Johnson now, in order he is status is minimised, because I suspect it will be monetised in some way, like some who went before him.
He was so annoying with his clearly massive exaggerations in the face of reality, everything had to be 'world class' and 'the best in Europe'. Looking back huge amounts of money were thrown away, during Covid, and Brexit wasn't oven ready at all. As more corruption emerges it's obvious all the flannel about Nightingale hospitals and Track & Trace was just smokescreens for people having it away with our money. The way he grinned his way through it all looks hideous now. I agree it'll be good when Johnson isn't talked about but I suspect there's a lot more to come out.
This would be a more interesting debate than the portugal game so far I suspect! We could go back and forth for hours and days. Would be great to do it over a couple of pints. I think we arent a million miles apart in perspective on what went on, but probably some nuanced views. For example, I am not so sure it was smokescreen for having it away with our money, maybe more a series of correct ideas, but with holes in the plans that people took advantage of, and thus they had it away with our money. Those taking advantage should now be brought to account of course. I keep saying I am no sympathist for him, history will judge him with a large degree of cynicism I suspect. I am just not so confident everything comes directly back to his door. Anyway, back to watching Ronaldo gurn his way through another 45 mins.
It's awful, Fernandes is worse than Ronaldo for face pulling and whining at his team mates ... ... both need a slap
Our inefficient Home Secretary is now rewarding inefficient staff with bonuses ... ... you really couldn't make this stuff up Home Office staff to get bonus incentive after asylum backlog reaches 120,000. Only four per cent of the asylum applications from 2021 have been processed. "I agree there is far too much delay in the system. It is too slow,” she said..Asylum caseworkers are taking on average one week to process just one application. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politic...ers-staff-bonuses-2500-reduce-growing-asylum/
If she didn't, she'd be bullying them. Anyhow, I see Gove is now insisting that housing associations do their jobs or they don't get extra money to build new homes.
****ing disgusting but it's what we all expected. One thing the strikes me is how much profit was made on ppe if that's the kind of figures they squirreled away?
Fascinating little bit from Hancock there on I'm A Celebrity as he explained a bit about how being a minister works and how heavily they lean on experts. 'Even the chief executive of the NHS doesn't know how every part of the NHS works'
If you're interested, watch it. If you're not, then you've avoided gaining the knowledge required to have a credible opinion.
A credible opinion by someone who spends his nights watching people eat bugs Denounces the Financial Times then gains his knowledge from a TV game show ... ... you really are just on a weird wind up.
