Like when Bobby Robson tried to address the crowd at PSV Eindhoven in Dutch - there was bemuzement and scratching of heads and the only noise was the visiting Ajax fans singing 'Bobby is a ****er' in English
I've got a cousin in Durham who runs a pub there and when I go up there the locals may as well be speaking Swahili for all I understand of it, especially after a few beers.
The VAR refs can ask the on field refs to have a re look at something . Sarr playing for Senegal . 2 ex Orns in the Dutch .
I'd say Wales just won the Battle of the Anthems hands down - both the players and the fans were outstanding. Now for the football...
Having recently visited Vietnam we know only too well how difficult it is to make oneself understood out there! Lovely people though, they make the effort to communicate honestly in our experience.
My French commentator got very excited when USA scored. I think he was trying to create some atmosphere for the viewers. Another ground with plenty of empty seats.
Isn't the amount of time being added on a bit excessive at the World Cup ? 14 mins. in the England match, 11 mins. for the Netherlands and the same for Wales ?
The England game did have a very long injury delay (as well as lots of stoppages to celebrate the goals!), but it does seem that referees have been told to add more time on.
There is a piece on the Beeb about games lasting so long. It is a good thing in my opinion if it cut backs on time wasting. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/63710986
I do not necessarily disagree with your point, but the long periods of stoppage time could create problems for the players due to the heat and the condensed fixture schedule.
Football simply doesn't belong in these conditions Luther - I wonder when they will decide to organize the World ski jumping championships in Saudi ? Maybe we should organize the next camel racing championships in Sussex.
France might be getting a bit worried about their game tonight.. Didn't see the ones today so far but bet Messi and co looked totally stunned.
In all seriousness, they are hosting the Asian ski jumping championships in Saudi in 2029 https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2...-winter-games-at-desert-megacity-neom-trojena
@Mexican Hornet Happy with a draw ? Better team but could have lost. Thought penalty was harsh so justice done .
I seriously doubt that, but you never know. The current Aussie squad has no-one of the calibre of past squads, and the team was lucky to qualify in my opinion.
