Just as with the worker rights and treatment they will promise to make things better soon. When I was out in the middle east over 30 years ago there was talk of stopping the confiscation of passports of workers, it was one of the promised reforms talked about all through the building of the stadiums, and it still happens today., nothing much has changed.
It will be the same with the lgbt thing easy to promise reforms but nothing will change. They say what you want to hear then carry on regardless.

I think most of us would have liked to have seen a boycott, but it didn't happen and that time has obviously now passed.

Southgate was certainly rather 'diplomatic' in the interview posted above, but it's very difficult for him to win in this situation. He's a football manager, not the foreign secretary or head of Amnesty, his priority is football, not human rights. Though he arranged for the team to meet with migrant workers on Thursday and hear first hand what they've been going through, so he's certainly not ignoring the issues.

I'm also not sure it's fair to lump journalists in with Beckham, going to report on a World Cup is very different to taking a large lump of cash to aid in sport-washing.

A few days before the start, they have backtracked on alcohol. And you think, or hope, there will be a backlash on LGBT rights? No. As there was here, there will already exist a network, but behind closed doors. And will remain so.

No I meant there could and probably will be a backlash against LGBT people from straight Qataris.

As I mentioned I would prefer a boycott, but if a few LGBT Qataris see representation from elsewhere in the world and it helps them to find anyone who can support them in the country then the token gestures are worth it.

3,000 years? Needs to brush up on his history. Rome didn’t exist yet and Greece was in its dark age. Germanic, Celtic and Slavic tribes were warring against each other for territory in their own backyards and Egypt and Semitic empires the major powers in the Mediterranean. European dominance of the globe started relatively recently in the 1500s.

Four Welsh football fans trying to reach Qatar in an electric car in time for Wales’s first game in the World Cup have been held up at the Saudi border and could miss the match.

The four set off 18 days ago and have crossed 17 countries, driving more than 6,100 kilometres in the car, nicknamed Morris.

After reaching the border between Jordan and Saudi Arabia, they were stopped because Saudi laws prevent them from continuing their journey in a right-hand drive vehicle.

The only option available is to turn around, drive back to Israel and take a ferry to Qatar — a two-week journey that would mean missing Wales’s opener against the US on November 21.

The drivers had been well on track to arrive in Qatar on Friday to meet the Wales team at their hotel.

I think Southgate as ever is an easy target, and as usual some people have chosen to interpret his comments in the worst way possible. FIFA's attitude is the part that disappoints me most, we had this big reckoning where supposedly the crooks were ousted and it was meant to become a credible organisation under Infantino, but it's been clear for a while that it's still the same shower of **** and his latest interview is the cherry on the cake. It's so strange that football seems to be permanently in the grip of these weirdos. What has to happen for football to say "**** this, FIFA is a shambles, let's break away"?

Doesn’t take much to realise it is a water chute in a water park. Like a lot of other things there it is not finished yet.
