As expected and predicted. Improvement but assets will have to be sold and further cost cutting will have to occur.
PAGE 4 is likely missing £?,000 [ is millions not thousands!! ? to much to take in and work out real figures ... we lost money ... didnt save a lot on players wages [ if anything ]
“Step in the right direction” – Bristol City make multi-million off-field announcements https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/s...y-make-multi-million-off-field-announcements/ The Verdict The numbers are significant but it’s clear the club are still recovering from a period of spending under Lee Johnson and Mark Ashton
Any normal business would have gone long ago-Steve L HAS TRUSTED MANY WITH HIS MONEY AND NONE HAVE PRODUCED TO DATE. Where would this club be with SL and his money.
Bristol City 21/22 accounts published. figures Revenue up 78% to £30m Wages down 14% to £30m Day to day losses down 39% to £27m Player purchases £2.3m Player sales £1.3m Total owner investment £240m #BCFC please log in to view this image
This is absolutely true, but one has to ask oneself if maybe SL has been both hero AND villain at the same time. We have had more money available than many (not all) clubs who have gone on to achieve more success than us on the pitch. We seem to bust a gut - and budget - just to stay in Championship safety. I don't have any insider information about what goes on in the boardroom, but if SL is trying to influence things and interfere with his management team, instead of letting them concentrate on doing what will bring results on the pitch, then he's been effectively sending his managers out to fight with one hand tied behind their backs. There have been a number of instances over the years which would suggest that maybe SL has been too 'hands-on' and 'micromanaged' things, instead of backing away and let the people he appointed do what they are paid to do; The Coppout debacle, David James's appointment, the Maguire/Gray/Gayle debacle, Cott's fall from grace, the LJ 'gamble', selling successive influential players during LJ's era including team captains Pack and Brownhill, Smith announcing his leaving on social media, the utter fiasco around Deano's appointment following LJs sacking ......... Steve L was either directly, or indirectly (because he appointed the people who WERE directly responsible), responsible for ALL those events. It does appear now like he is giving Nige more of a free reign - but we have yet to see that turn into success on the pitch. In the meantime, he has to put his hand in his pocket to bail us out - partly (not entirely) due to his own mistakes.
I have said many a time the money that has been wasted is absolutely crazy and we should have progressed far far higher than we have with the funds spent. Nige has summed it up previously and was Absolutely gobsmacked how this football club has been run in the past. Seriously and all joking aside he has been given a job to sort this **** show out and what a job that is. I really am amazed he has taken it on- however he feels it is in his remit to follow it through hopefully building us like he did at Leicester.
I never realised that this club's finances had been dragged down to such a critical depth, I knew it was bad but by god it really was near the knuckle, what a mess the guy inherited, you can understand Nige's struggle, hamstrung and overloaded, I admire the way he has handled the situation and if you really dig deep you can understand his frustrations but he continues to take it on the chin although the disaster was not of his making but who is really responsible? who is to blame? You can hang blame on SL, LJ, MA,JL but plain and simple without Mr Lansdown we would be toast,it's going to be a while before we get out of this swamp but we are on the right track, for all of his warts Steve Lansdown has been a blessing.
This is a interesting read- Around £12m in the limit' - Football finance expert's verdict on Bristol City's accounts Author of The Price of Football Kieran Maguire discussed Bristol City's latest accounts with Bristol Live https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport...Iy4IpOsUUelAVmm6W6Jn9kxOlV554t6yFcxoV_t5dw90c
Interesting - so it looks like we are ok with FFP - as long as we continue to bring losses down Good news then - unless I've missed something...?
You know, hindsight is a magical thing, when you look back you see the history of it all and determine " I would have ... I should have ... I could have... if only I ..... ETC !" SL gets a bit of stick from a couple on here, even now after all he has done which is totally unfair and needless. We are all guilty [the ones that get on do something for themselves and others ] of that annoying thing of "being a multi tasker that fails.... to some degree!" SL has fallen into that category [ was going to say trap ! ] His aims were [ LISTED NO PARTICULAR ORDER ] ... Prem .. new stadium [ LA] with superior training facility,[ LA] and self sufficiency... pretty basic reall,y 4 things .... he has pretty much achieved 2 almost got a third and 4th is still no PREM. LOOK BACK ---------------- LA was a disaster and a long drawn out distraction and then Stadium rebuild took a couple years, additional planning and money, still trying to get players in and progressing...... then Failand "funded separately" but by then still not in PREM BUT DID GET CLOSEST for a few seasons before, since been miles away hovering above relegation last 2 seasons...factor in COVID ... AND CHAOS .... some clubs were caught out a bit, some worse than city [ not many ] some on smaller budget lost pro rata% but turn over being lower were never going to reach £39m... in hindsight we have weathered a storm, all we need now is a management team to get us out of the relegation zone which for 2 years seems to have been our home! SL has done his bit to date .....
fans need to stick behind Nige funny how Leicester and Watford fans say stick with him he will turn you around-for me under current circumstances and restrictions he is doing okay. we all want more but as i keep saying this **** show was full of big big issues that are being addressed slowly but surely.
The one common denominator in all of the words, bad decisions, excuses and bank balances is Steve Lansdown and he has to accept a large part of the blame for where we are today. When you have to pump your own money into the organization to keep it afloat then surely you have to look back over your own shoulder and accept culpability for the mistakes along the way. However, without his money we could be in a bigger mess and that leaves me wondering if he is as smart a businessman as the world believes? All of the hiring has been done by him and there were many times when I asked if those decisions were made by footballing nous or the bank balance. Blaming various managers as the reasons why we are in this mess is all very well and good but in the real-world failures get axed based on their performances, or lack thereof, and this was not done correctly or in a timely manner with several ex-managers. On many occasions I asked what gremlins were wandering the dark halls of Ashton Gate and how they were affecting our day-to-day operations, and now we still don't know for sure who they are, or were, but the end result is a complete mess that doesn't seem to have any end game. Is Kwasi Kwarteng available?
here we go, going to display my ignorance again, but when you look at the money spent on the ground, training facilities etc.surely the equity in that must carry some weight hardly a busted flush are we,i would think we are a pretty good propositon to any outside investor given our fan base and geographical position etc.
"Like many clubs in the 2010s, heavy spending was committed to push for the Premier League before Covid-19 severely impacted revenue." Covid has significantly made an impact on the value of players etc....it was all unforseen, I imagine many clubs are in a similar boat, we are worse having no parachute payments from the premiership, unlike most clubs in the championship that have had the benifit in years gone by... Bristol City managed to compete well in the 2nd tier of English football for four years, allowing progress to be achieved for the future managers coming in....so far we have failed to build, instead we have been looking over our shoulder in fear of relegation and back to square one..
