Should be up to the relevant Govts and authorities to put pressure on Qatar about that though, it's not down to footballers when they are there for a tournament

Like Lloris said, why didn't the authorities do that 10 years ago when they decided to award the WC to Qatar

It's like blaming the train driver for the tickets being too expensive and the trains always being late, when it's down to decades of train companies underinvesting in the network

It's been well reported and footballers have been aware of it for a long time. Up to them if they want to go to the WC and just play football but don't come out with nonsense like respect the culture when the culture or some aspects of the culture like modern day slavery and a maximum punishment for homosexuality of stoning to death are simply unacceptable. Shut up and play football.

Former Tottenham, Southampton and Paris St-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino says he would be "open to everything" when asked if he would be interested in becoming England manager. (Athletic - subscription required)

    Would sack Southgate this afternoon

UK Pride organisations have called on bars and venues to not screen World Cup matches in a boycott of the tournament.

Think it’s about time I entered full Ingerlund mode and start racially abusing some people outside my Wetherspoons.

Qatar trying to reverse decision to sell alcohol in stadiums. This WC couldn’t get any better.

Their country, their rules, simple really.

Plus it helps to stop our dickheads getting arrested. Although I believe they can still buy alcohol away from the ground.

I wonder if they will still sell shandy..... :bandit:

Looking forward to the footy starting now. Honestly couldn't give a sh8t about the rest of the stuff as probably 3/4 of the world is bonkers in some form or other. Basically the sooner the human race is wiped out the sooner we call all rest in peace.

Anyway back to the footy...come on England.

Indeed because you have to respect the culture and the consumption of alcohol is illegal.

They’ve got camps set up for the alcoholics somewhere near the desert plains

    I believe that’s called ‘compromising’

If we have a World Cup here and an Arab or North African team qualifies and they demand that they can hear the call to prayer 5 times a day as they do back home

will that be allowed for the month?

    nope, didn’t think so

    Typical Western arrogance

    Your country, our rules
    Our country, our rules

seriously hope some of these fans get bare Friday afternoon prayer lashings

they the best coz y get free popcorn

We seem to forget or the media do, we've banned alcohol in view of the pitch for decades.
