French referee Johan Hamel sadly passed away on Wednesday morning, aged 42, after he suffered a stroke during training on Tuesday.

He was a regular figure in French football, having officiated in Ligue 2 before being promoted to Ligue 1 in the 2016/17 season.

    RIP <rose>

I have a problem with these "like" icons. Always feels as if you like what's happened to the subject of the post. There should be another option, maybe "so sad".

Just saw this and you're absolutely right Staines. Truly gifted.
I first remember seeing him in Carry On Nurse, which introduced me to the perhaps the funniest film franchise ever produced, and only last month was watching Carry On Constable.
He always appeared as the debonair, quasi upper class gent who exuded "cool".

Sad to hear of his passing, but at 98, quite a good innings. RIP.

He was actually born into working class in Tottenham. Took elocution lessons as regional accents were frowned of in the theatre then.

    Touching Staines.
Even though it was 20 years ago, I understand that the grief never leaves. It may be blunted somewhat as life goes on, but memories always remain. Mostly good memories I hope.
I felt the same anguish and sorrow when my parents passed in 2010. Never forget those days. And like your dad, my dad appeared much, much more gaunt and frail than in life. :emoticon-0153-broke
Never forget him mate. And hope when we pass, we will get together with those who passed before. <hug>

Yeah, heard that he was born in Spurs territory. Maybe that's why he went into acting, to get away from those, let's just say, less than delightful "commoners". (Trying hard not to swear here :emoticon-0127-lipss).

You may remember a couple of weeks ago on the West Brom Match Day thread I posted that I'd been in the local hospital all afternoon with aged mother and that it was a case of when and not if, well sadly the when was yesterday afternoon. She'd been in a deep sleep since Monday of last week and receiving palative care, in a way it was the best way to go as she simply went to sleep and never woke up....... She missed out on reaching her 101st birthday by just 12 days......

Although sad I'm ok with it all, she had a memorable life and lived far longer than anyone could imagine, being independent until 97 when a couple of falls took their toll, the last year wasn't great as she became more dependent on carers and was confined to a wheel chair, but when you get to that age you can't really expect to be in top notch health.......

We do things quickly here, and her cremation is tomorrow in Cork...... If you get a chance raise a glass around 3 o'clock.

    Cheers all......

Really sad to hear that mate. Condolences and RIP.
You being near her as much as you were, I'm sure she would have felt your presence and given her comfort. Let's hope our children are as compassionate when our turn comes.
Again, heartfelt condolences to you Trammers. You've been a good son. <rose><rose><rose>

Condolences Tranmers, sounds like she had a terrific life. Will be thinking of you and will raise half a glass ( all I'm allowed now I'm afraid), in her honour at 3pm. Hope it all goes without a hitch <rose>

Never easy losing a parent regardless of age, but a great innings and a life well lived, I’d imagine. Sorry for your loss, Trams.
