Cresswell has played all 4 of the last Milwall games and even scored his 4th goal on Saturday taking the club into the top 6. Think he now played 15 league games so far this season and seems to be a fans favourite down there.

    Sebastian Driussi

think doc did an overview of him a week or two back

Thought he was more an AM than striker but banged a lot of goals in this season - made the mls team of the year. Rather like Wagner, in his prime rather than a kid so you will always question why they’ve never cracked Europe. Think doc had an explanation for druissi’s middling time in Russia.

guess we’ll be discussing lots of similar rumours whilst fighting tedium during the world cup

Not quite halfway through the season but my assessment of Cresswell is he started on fire, defended well, passes well, moves well and chips in with a few goals as well, he then fell of the pace for a bit and lost his place when Shaun Hutchinson (our captain) recovered from his injury. There were a couple of rumours that he wasn't happy and he was going to return to Leeds in January, then Hutchinson got injured again and Cresswell was back in the team, he seems to have found his bite again and a few clean sheets recently were most welcome, finishing the game against Hull after getting a severe kick in the head in the first half has won over some of our hard to please fans and has endeared him even more to most of us, he looked like he enjoyed his goal against his Dad's old side on saturday as well. 9/10 so far.<cheers>

… ringo - so when Hutchinson is back? What happens.

wasn’t there a back 5 v back 4 element or was that switch to do with injury too?

When Hutchinson is back Rowett has got a bit of a decision to make, the straight back five made us too predictable and was dire to watch due to lack of chances, switching to a back four gives us more attacking options, mixing the styles up a little is beginning to give us a edge in games.

Sorry for butting in but I think the question was more around what happens to Cresswell, i.e. will he be getting game time, rather than how a 4 or 5 at the back affects your teams performance. The former is of interest but the later, as always, is irrelevant. <cheers>

Is it not pointless assessing Creswell based on what he’s doing in the championship. We were there long enough to know that the standard duloesnt bear any resemblance to pl nor do milwall. Let’s judge the lad if or when he’s back at the top level

I'll go out on a limb here Eire and tell you he's no Hunter, Charlton, Radebe or even a Woodgate. That said he'll end up being better than Cooper, Koch and quite a few others.

Hope that doesn't disappoint you too much.

Personally I have higher hopes for hjelde than cresswell, though obviously would love them both to make the grade.

Not at all. Just feel sometimes we put too much pressure on the young lads based on what they do at a far different level. We need fresh blood in that defence for sure

I think Brighton showed us the way with Ben White. He had 2 seasons out on loan and played around 100 games.

I'd do the same with Hjelde and Cresswell. However, one or both may have to learn on the job as our current centre halves are a big steaming pile of ****!

You mean Llorente, Cooper, Struijk & Koch who all helped us finish 9th season before last.

It's a team game, a collective where when it's going well players exceed their potential because the manager/coach has correctly identified a method which allows the team as a whole to function to its optimum.

Now our current coach allows Summerville, Rodrigo & Aaronson certain freedoms which allows them to look good, sometimes to the detriment of other players who are left having to cover the red arrows attacking on all sides. It's a balancing act which if we win more than we lose is worth it, but calling out our defensive players as being totally sh*t is unfair IMHO.

I did answer that where I said Rowett will have a decision to make when Hutchinson is fit but thinking about it he will get some game time as the fixtures come thick and fast in the championship and suspensions begin to kick in there will be plenty of opportunities.
The explanation about 4 or 5 at the back was in answer to Milky's question, do feel free to butt in on any answers in the future though<cheers>

Morning Jammy. I know. It was said tongue in cheek to be honest. Frustration at their lack of form this season.

If we are to play this system we need defenders with better skill sets than we have. We certainly need more pace back there. A left back would give the whole team more balance.

Koch has had an OK season but he's slow and he is starting to make regular mistakes. He seems very quiet for a centre half.

Cooper has never looked comfortable at this level but is a great organiser and even with his shortcomings as a defender we look better with him back there.

Llorente....I'm gonna refer to my previous statement. He's been **** this season. Really ****. Cost us alot of points. Don't know where the Llorente of 20/21 season is.

    Firpo...really?

Struijk has been OK at left back but I think he has been told to tuck in too much. As a centre half he's OK but when the going got tough last season he soon disappeared. He's very slow and would need a pacey partner with him.

I like Cresswell and Hjelde but they are not ready yet.

Cresswell is a natural leader and organiser. We need one of those to replace Cooper but again he is slow and we need a pacier guy to partner him. Will he be ready next season?

Really like Hjelde. Think he will go on and be a top player at centre half. Is he a better left back than Struijk?

I'm actually in favour of trying to replace 3 of the current back 4 next summer with Firpo, Struijk, Llorente, Cooper, Koch and even Ayling made available for the right offers. Ayling and Cooper would be free but they aren't gonna be first choice so give them the option of finding somewhere else.

The headline below annoys me really. We have a bunch of top clubs wanting to sign him, so he’s good enough for them but deemed not good enough for us? Is it because Marsch wants Kristensen as his first choice, which I get. However if Ayling gets a new contract then it kills an ambitions for Drameh, which means Drameh is too attacking in the Marsch system

Leeds United's English right-back Cody Drameh, 20, is attracting interest from Newcastle United, Lille, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen. (Fabrizio Romano)

When we signed Kristensen it was the final nail in the coffin for Dramah.

I've a feeling that in a few years time we will be on here moaning "why did we stick with Kristensen instead of England international Dramah?"

A sensible compromise would be to use Drameh at LB. He’s played there before, has said himself he’s comfortable there, and is rapid enough to cover for the slower CB’s.

    Definitely worth a go.
