My neighbour went from Heathrow to Budapest and back last week, no problems. My daughter pitched up at Gatwick for a 10am departure this morning. Flight cancelled after passing through security, police escort back to the other side. Booked another flight, delayed for 2 hours, boarded at 1745, took off at 1945, 2 hours sitting in a plane on the runway. She's now £500 or so out of pocket which she should get back but you just know it's going to be a hassle. If you look online at the arrival/departure boards it's clear that the majority of flights are delayed significantly at best or cancelled at worst. It looks like the cheap airlines are struggling more than the bigger ones, and it's cheap holiday flights that are the most affected, unsurprisingly. It's an almighty cock-up and even worse it's hard to find a good reason to blame Boris for it!
I don't think he can be blamed this time, the airlines but more so the airport's should he taking the vast majority of the blame, airlines knowingly over booking flights etc is inexcusable for example. It's not as if half term and summer etc has just come out the blue and dropped on people at the last minute. They all knew it was coming. The airports struggling for staff is a self made problem for them. They where giving an eye watering amount of money to stay afloat during COVID and are still trying to get away with paying the bare minimum for staff and all this knowing the are short staffed and the peak summer season was coming. Boris and his party loving chums do sometimes make themselves a very easy target, but this time I don't think it's them.
Just as people left the hospitality sector, same has happened at airports. The number of people that need replacing nationally will be clogged up by the security screening process. What is the point of hiring and training someone if they subsequently fail security? I offer no solution.
From what I've seen as I've passed through security the last few times, it really isn't helped by people who really can't understand simple rules re what can and can't be taken through and that electronic items have to be taken out. Then when they are told they are In the wrong spend the next 5 mins arguing about it.
We live in a world of having things instantly so there's a lot of impatience . Obvs you'd be gutted and rightly so if it was cancelled but I've had 3 hour plus delays and just gone for a walk . A 24 hour delay is bingo time
In another part of the race to the bottom people pay budget airline prices but expect 1st class service. please log in to view this image
Forget all the troubles this world has, Britney Spears has a new single coming out with Elton! Dear God
It's ****ing dreadful. Just one of his old durges redone with loads of auto tune and electronic bleeping
I guess I've learnt over time, but I always travel with a jacket, phone, headphones, wallet, belt etc all go in the pockets of the jacket whilst queuing, so you just take the jacket off and pass through very smoothly without delay. Unless some twat asked you to take your shoes off.
Bit like standing in a supermarket queue whist the husband in front sorts all the food through and then after that 10 mins the wife only gets the card out to pay ! From a handbag then a purse - and then only a couple of years ago ‘ by the way I’ve got these vouchers!!!!!
I couldn't find my original thread, so I'll just leave it there, because it's so hard to not to watch
