I had another look at our goals conceded last night on mot2. Aylings legs were wider than an old whore just what was he doing.
Just listened to the Phil Hay podcast as sometimes you get a decent snippet. He is touch and go on Marsch surviving due to not being able to sort out his defence. He does however say that he is now getting a lot more goals, so that’s come good, but he does now need to resolve his defending. He said his stats were originally good but in getting more goals it has cost us defending. 14 games last season 15 points 14 games this season 15 points Goals conceded last season after 14 games 20 Goals conceded this season after 14 games 26 Goals scored last season from 14 games 19 Goals scored this season from 14 games 27 The takeaway from the above stats in my opinion is that Marsch just needs a good LB and a tweak in tactics. I’m a little more confident this season than last as I believe we are a better team but jeez we need to tweak the tactics
We need some faster defenders than cooper & Struijk. With those two sorted it would give us a better idea of the rest. A couple of spurs goals were free hits with no pressure on the scorer.
I know he likes to play it narrow, but surely he can see that we are leaving the flanks open for the opposition to run into without being marked. This has happened in most of our games and will cost us points over a full season.
Afternoon all Two good defenders, define good, we thought we had two great ones in Koch and Llorente when they signed.
Tbh Rich, I Don't think any of us knew much or anything about either of them, we looked at their pedigree and though ok, this looks good, Llorente did start well until his first injury, Koch was mostly played out of position. Both gaving played enough games now to form an opinion, Llorente just isn't good enough, Koch is hit and miss. We need better but happy to keep Koch as a squad player
shaks of course he knows that… it’s partly the trade off for the style of play AND it shouldn’t be as easy to score from as it has been as the numbers are there to stop it if people do their job so either the players aren’t good enough or the coach isn’t getting the message of who picks up who in what situation. That said: Goals Saturday:… corner… throw-in… speculative cross. Bournemouth one was route one, one was a breakaway from our corner. Goals are coming from multiple situations. Marsch gives up width defensively… bielsa went man to man and gave up the middle if our man lost his duel. Most would say better to give up width.
Yeh I’d seen nothing of either of them. I was really suspicious of the Koch signing at the time. 23 year old German international cb should cost a fortune. He didn’t and no one else was driving the price up. When I watched him in year 1 I thought he was nice footballer and terrible defensively. Llorrente I had higher hopes of. Thought he looked classy on the ball early on. But even in those early games he was error prone. Seemed to hold it together for a while but then just became a liability, holding on to the ball too long too often, poor marking, weak in the air. at another club in another league both could look good.
I think Llorente just appears too weak for the PL, which is annoying as he handled Mitrovic really well first couple of times we played Fulham. Someone of a higher quality with leadership skills playing along side Koch could take him up a couple of levels, I think he's nearly there but has to be more consistent
That’s what the athletic pay him for. Real insight. We’re conceding more goals so we need to sort the defence out. Thanks for that Phil. Will sleep better tonight.
I still thinkthe job Llorente and Koch have been tasked to do recently causes us problems. Amazing how these 2 can have great games when we set up differently. I blame the coach not the tools. Cooper was garbage and embarrassing against Spurs, never seen him look so bad. Struijk was being shredded and Cooper was left exposed yet Marsch brought Ayling on. Yes loads of individual errors but just maybe they have an excuse for some of them. And no I’m not anti Marsch but I prefer to be pro player and not covering Marsch’s arse continually
It was further up the Twitter feed fella. Gallagher said definite foul on meslier. So for once he sided with Leeds on the 3 key ‘decisions’ or none decisions.
9️⃣ Leeds United have taken the lead in matches on nine occasions since hammering Chelsea Football Club. 2️⃣ Only two of those leads have been converted into victories. 7️⃣ On the other seven occasions, Jesse Marsch's side have conceded equalisers in less than nine minutes, on average.
