Certainly some very unpleasant tribalism in Africa.

There is everywhere, but how the **** is Africa relevant to a discussion about English folks behaviour at English football matches?

These threads always drift as I'd expect we would all agree on rascism being stamped out without debate while hooliganism is a broader subject and more open to debate and definition across generations of fans.

Because some people think racism and tribalism is a white monopoly.

It's not debatable that we want football to do the talking and not the hoolie wannabes is it?

    Get the ****s banned.

Think its better defined in hegemonic terms. It exists everywhere to an extent or another, Can't control attitudes but we should control abuse and disorder in densely populated public spaces.

Especially in those where its more common than it should be that things can go badly wrong.

Like the cityncentre where there is more violence and disorder every night than inside the MKM?

Yeah, and there's more plod than stewards.

Why do you try every time to widen your argument to some estate, city centre, some tribe in Africa?

We're talking specifically about a minority of home fans behaviour in certain areas of the MKM?

More plod than stewards in the city centre? Never seen groups of 20 coppers stood about in the cit centre in case something kicks off. Because I don’t wet my knickers over a minor problem when far worse things are happening elsewhere. Some people won’t be happy until the whole of the MKM is like a theatre with everyone sat politely. I bet you are against anyone standing up because it is dangerous and anti social.

Trying to put words in my mouth again.

    Cheap.

I'll stand by the 200 or so ****s need their wings clipped.

I'll agree that current 'prevention' tactics are useless. Perhaps need to think of more of a 'cure'.

you can't deny that 'hooligans' will be involved in more racism than an average fan
you live in glasgow for one
not every hooligan but it's a greater chance

I don’t believe it. Why weren’t they shouted down, or frogmarched out as they should have been? Surely in a stand full of people, many would have overheard this. Why didn’t the other witnesses do anything about it or even back up that it happened?

Not all hooligans are racist and not all racists are hooligans. But sometimes traits converge.

I think the link comes from the "us and them" mentality.

Racism is putting emphasis on one race being superior to others, while intense football tribalism puts emphasis on one club being superior to others. The cause of tribalism in football varies in different countries, religion, geography, people will always find an excuse to target clubs they don't like, but at the heart of it, it's a superiority issue. Racists show "strength" by denigrating people that aren't like them, football fans belittle people who don't support the same football club as them.

I don't think anybody has claimed that the consequences are the same, but psychologically it's quite similar.

But you can still build an identity without 'been a ****' .

Why the **** would grown people make the argument that it was somehow necessary to have to rely on a bunch of 16 - 18 year old still living with their mums snorting a load of cheap gear and chucking coins/ripping away end seats, charging segregation lines etc..

If you have to do that **** then take up cage fighting. Don't piss off the rest of us.

Really? At some clubs but not at Birmingham, West Ham and others where some of the main hooligans were people of colour.

You also seem to conflate sectarianism with racism as well.

Another 'somewhat defined' segmentation of ultimately the same mentality.
