Aye mate. I tend to think people have passionate views on this thread. We all probably bang on a bit much at times. I would still by everyone a pint and give them a cuddle though
Only I believe that a white bloke telling a predominantly black audience that he's ' got a terrible tan for a black man' is racist? Yikes. Presumably Johnson's well publicised comments and Francois' remarks about 'Japs' are also fine then?
His comments were racist, in our modern society, in my opinion. I found them quite awful. Same with Francois and same with Streeting - both MPs are entirely fortunate not to be out of a job. All entirely discriminatory in my opinion. I work in an environment where each is frowned upon and in my opinion rightly so. I would expect serious disciplinary inquiries, and sacking probably. Both main parties do seem to struggle to tackle discrimination. Wider society is better. The parliamentary media were implicated earlier this week, which makes the whole situation more worrisome.
Labour have the temerity to hammer this comment, whilst saying Wes Streetings comments arent as bad. That is their hopeless defence - we arent as bad as them. The reality is they are equally as bad as them, and Streeting proved that beyond doubt.
One of them is a cringy creep who slavers after every woman he sees, was binned off and the other is ... ... oops, can I have a bit more time to think
Wonderful news for us all .... ... sadly not soaring back to the two dollar mark it was at twelve years ago.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-63623502 The LSE no longer Europe's most valuable exchange. Overtaken by Paris for the first time since records began (2003). In 2016 the LSE was worth $1.6trillion more than its Parisien rival.
I wonder how long before the country is debating reapplying to be in the EU. Would a Labour government consider it? Seems to me like everything is worse as a result. I was reading something by an ex bank of england monetary policy maker today who says Brexit is the major factor behind the need for more Austerity measures. I have a feeling history will judge our generation very unkindly when it comes to the decision to vote Leave.
More great news today ... Mon 14 Nov 2022 "George Eustice, the former environment secretary, has told the Commons that the free trade deal with Australia – hailed by Boris Johnson’s government as one of the big trade gains from Brexit – was a poor deal for the UK."
Brexit has undoubtedly been an absolute disaster, but it hasn't helped matters that we've done absolutely nothing of significance since then to attempt to make a success of it.
It seems like years since we had a Government actually working away for the country ... .... MPs always seem to be clearing their desks, off on holiday or wasting their time/our money lounging around in the jungle.
The thing that always wound me up was the claims about the deal we would get from the EU on leaving. We set ourselves to negotiate with 27 different sets of interests effectively, and a governing body who would strike a deal that made it very unlikely anyone else would want to leave. I do a fair bit of deal negotiating in my work and I could imagine nothing worse. We literally had no leverage.
The current crop of MPs are a shadow of the talent we once had in parliament, on all sides. The fact one of them is on a reality tv show right now I find absolutely despicable. It seems to me there are no standards anymore. I am willing to give Sunak the benefit of the doubt and hope he at least focuses on policy and decisions. Whether we like them or not will be judged in time. We need our MPs back working to their job descriptions asap.
According to Boris Johnson, we were sending billions to Europe and that money would be used wisely when we left ... ... I wonder whatever happened to it. “And yes – once we have settled our accounts, we will take back control of roughly £350 million per week. It would be a fine thing, as many of us have pointed out, if a lot of that money went on the NHS”
