Dier, Maguire, Trent, Henderson and Rashford all very lucky, albeit Henderson is probably picked on the basis Phillips may not be 100%, even though he himself ain't a definite starter as I reckon Bellingham and Rice will be the spine in midfield.

Maddison definitely well deserved, shame he'll likely only get about two five-minute cameos, far too creative and attacking for Southgate's liking.

Tomori and Toney very (very) unfortunate.
I would have taken Tomori over Maguire and Toney over Rashford.
Southgate is a twat

But apparently if England and France both win their groups and first knock out game, they play each other in the Quarters anyway, so England aren't getting passed the QF either way

And Southgate will typically bore the life out of us before we get knocked out. His selection is gonna consist of more defenders and defensively minded players despite the fact our real quality lies in attacking midfield and forwards. Realistically, at least two of Maddison, Grealish, Foden and Saka are not likely gonna be in the XI when you factor in his usual 523/ 532 formation.

I'd see it as a choice between Toney and Wilson myself, as both more traditional No 9's, which Rashford isn't.

Wilson wins out in this case. Rashford offers an alternative to that.

I agree Maguire shouldn't go, but then nor should Calvin Phillips. Neither has played much. If one ok, so is the other.

The general consensus that Maguire is **** doesn't really count as he has never been **** in a Southgate squad, so that's why he picked him. Tomori more an unknown.

I do agree that Maguire is not match fit enough to play in a world cup though.

Connor Gallagher is not international standard, that's the bizarre selection in all this.

If Wilson can stay fit he's the man to get a goal when you need one. Kane will be good for the easier games.

I'm seeing lots of bait since the England squad was announced.

Bod has suddenly appeared and Peej is going full tonto.

I think there should be a Gills player in the England team anyway, especially as we progressed further than Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, West Ham, Brentford, Palace and Leeds united in the Carabao Cup.
