Fair point about Southgate. I hadn’t realised JWP was such a regular in his squads, I don’t really follow England

I think we would all enjoy Pompey beating the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool.and Chelsea ... hypothetically!! The point being you could then take the proverbial.**** out of these supporters at your workplace!
    PS: I.prefer MK.Dons to.any of these three!!

It shows how tribal football can be and how discourse in general has disintegrated due to partisanship when someone can text into the BBC live feed hoping Alexander-Arnold is England’s first choice right back to “prove the haters wrong”

Suddenly you are just “a hater” for pointing out that he is really bad defensively and has been individually at fault for lots of goals this season

It’s not far off how people can get flustered when someone disagrees with them and then resorts to insults or attempts to discredit the person (often accusations of some kind of bigotry to tar them as not worth listening to). Lots of people are just so within their own bubbles that any kind of challenge makes them break down.

I’ve actually seen people say things like “I’m not interested in a defence or explanation of that person’s actions”. Jaw dropping

Indeed I wonder whether the England right back debate would have taken a similar path if it wasn’t for it mainly being a debate between Reece James and TAA

Here is top of the table Sholing's hammering of second place Exmouth Town last saturday, a couple of great goals scored...

Who is going to be the whipping boy if England underperform and when eliminaron occurs. I.hope Rashford, TAA, Saka, Abraham, Foden, Grealish, Rice, Mount and Sterling have an outstanding tournament and earn the plaudits of pundits and fans alike. Conversely, although he is a good player, Kane just doesn't excite me!

Maddison is a good call from Southgate. Been exceptional this season.

Tomori's omission is a joke. Easily better than most of the CB's in that squad. Other than that there's nothing glaringly wrong there.

Overall not the worst England squad pick ever, some nitpicks though.

    - Only 1 left back - Rico Henry or Ryan Sessegnon should be going.
    - Toney is playing better than Rashford.
    - Kalvin Phillips shouldn’t be going.
    - Tomori absent.

Prowse doesn’t deserve to be there on form, but shouldn’t be overlooked in favour of Kalvin Phillips.

Sky pundits seem to be picking Prowse out as the most significant absentee because it’s the second time it’s happened to him.

Ward-Prowse has had a pretty poor season so far, but to take Philips when he hasn't started a game this season is genuinely baffling.

Surely Sterling and Henderson shouldn’t be going. Wilson is Kane’s main backup. Rashford plays wide

Generous on Gallagher as well. Chelsea haven’t exactly been pulling up trees

I get Phillips because he won't start the group games as he won't be needed in them. But he'll get minutes, build up his fitness and his defensive capabilities could be very useful in the knock out stages (assuming we get that far).

Phillips was one of Englands best players the last tournament so not sure why people are so bothered he’s going. Who should’ve gone in his place? JWP who has been woeful all year?

Suspect Phillips is there for when Rice or Henderson get injured.

Just experience of England picking players who have been injured for an extended period before and lacking match fitness, I can’t remember a single time that it has worked.

I'd play a fit Phillips over Henderson every day of the week.

If you're going by that logic, Ward-Prowse should be in the squad on last seasons peformance.

I'm gutted for JWP, but as the same time, glad he's not going as he can work with Jones over next 6 weeks.

Think that squad looks about right. Only issue for me is that we have Coady, Maguire, Stones and Dier are in the squad yet somehow we have last seasons serie winner Tomori not included.

Apart from that, he has got the big calls right. JWP doesn't deserve to go based on this season, will hopefully benefit Saints.

He wasn’t good enough last year either. But my point was more that everyone says Southgate picks players on how they perform for him, and Phillips always has done, so not sure why people are angry about Philips going. There isn’t a stand out candidate who missed out because of it. JWP? Gallagher? Can’t really think of anyone else. If Maddison had missed out then I could understand it more
