To sum up. Two **** uninterested sides played **** football. Game was won by back to back ****aboutery in midfield by a **** side which gave the other **** side a goal. Instantly forgettable performance by Leeds. None of those youngsters making debuts are ready to make the step up just yet.
Shame for the lads that played. Didn't deserve to lose that. Bit of naivity from Greenwood for the goal, can't lose the ball in that position. Shame they won't get at least an extra game in the comp to show what they can do - but proper match experience in front of a decent crowd against premier league players. Think they'll take confidence from how they matched up. Don't buy that it effects first team confidence - none of them played. If anything it boosts the squad and keeps the first teamers on their toes because some of these lads looked like they'll be knocking on the door.
Spot on Rich winning brings confidence too many changes for me although some good individual performances from the young lads We move on if we lose Saturday we're all on the Marsch out thread
FWIW. Decent games for Robles, Ayling, Hjelde. Average games for Firpo, Klich, Joseph. Thought the rest were pretty poor tbh.
****ing disgraceful team line up from jesse, show some ****ing respect to the cups and try to win every game. Yeah the kids need a chance, but this is not the u23s, it's against a premier league team. One more game till the massive break play the 1 st team minus any injured players. ****in seething. And no II will not accept 'it's only the second rate cup'. Rant over, maybe. MOT
You must be on a wind up. The giveaway was you saying Firpo was average, thats way over the top praise from you Perkins was good first half, I thought Gyabi did well considering he was in the engine room against experienced players.
I agree, give the kids a chance but but not all of them at once. I do think our biggest problems tonight were Llorente and Jack though. They had poor games
I'm not saying it's the right decision but I think the argument of playing the kids in numbers - effectively as units - is they know each other's games and it's probably less intimidating. The glaring thing for me apart from the baby strike force, was how fragile the midfield looked on paper. A side that likes to play with two pivots played with an AM and an18 year old. But hey, if we play first teamers and several get crocked for Spurs, the manager would get dogs abuse for risking them. If Joffy is out and paddy still injured, we go to spurs with perkins or joseph as our back up strikers. At least they have some game time now - which might be more crucial if Rodrigo strains a muscle before the weekend whilst oiling his pecs.
I’ve said it previous years but the sooner these cup competitions are disbanded the better. None of the pl clubs with an iota of interest in them. Waste of time cobbling together a team like we put out tonight. What does it prove or do for the players involved or the travelling fans. Cups have been a joke for twenty years at least
Lots of positives from tonight and thought we were unlucky and a penalty shoot out would probably have been about right. Not happy with the result but overall have little cause for complaint and think we're actually getting stronger as a squad. Interesting that the ESPN commentary identified the centre forward position as our biggest weakness. This was explained as due to Joffy not having the pace to run in behind and continually coming short looking for the ball. They're not wrong of course as without Bamford we always look lacking in that position.
Joffy's so last year Jambo. We've all moved on to jimmy, willy, sam, mateo and sonny as this year's next big things to hype up and get excited about
Newcastle put a strong side out as well as utilizing a strong bench but still needed a penalty shoot out to progress. Hopefully that means they're taking it seriously and really want to win a trophy. Maybe one day we'll do the same.
