When Baxter made the error we had actually acheived one of the needed objectives of playing it out from the back and that is to invite the oppositons press to make more room up the pitch, at that point instead of playing it short to Seri it should have gone up field to where there should have been space at that time since we had quite a few of Cardiffs player close to our box.
Longman made a telling contribution to our second and third goals. Not a huge fan but you cant argue with that.
I think we were fortunate we were up against a team that are so haplessly disjointed across the park as Cardiff. When we committed that mistake and allowed them back into the game, we went from a position of cruising in absolute confront to handing them the impetus. We looked really poor for a good while after that until the 2 goals came from nowhere and we turned it round. And fair play to them for turning it round but I do wonder how it would have panned out against a more organised side, I don’t think we’d have got back into it personally. So let’s not get too carried away.
I'm not really a fan of playing out from the back. it's a risky strategy as we saw last night (and in some previous games this season) but Rosie believes in it so I'll give the players some leeway. I do sometimes wonder if Pep decided it was a good idea to shoot from the kick-off then everyone would try it? FWIW I thought Cardiff had a decent home record before last night? Can't be rsed to check, but I thought Burns said something along those lines
This point that the opposition were **** and that's why we won is completely garbage. Before yesterday, Cardiff had only conceded 6 goals in 9 games at home, that's the best home defence in the league. They don't score many but they don't concede many usually and they're an organised side. I don't understand people refusing to not give us credit when we play well
True. But they were very comfortably mid-table before last night. So let's not get too dismissive either.
We've scored a 3rd as many goals at cardiff as they've conceded there all season. A big part of that was drawing them on and playing through their press but some city fans focus on the one time we got caught out and conceded. ****ing typical negative ****e from the usual suspects.
I thought Cardiff looked knackered by the last quarter of the game and when the press stopped, spaces opened and we scored 2 quick fire goals. But you have to play and keep the ball like we did to tire them out. Robinson up top for them put in a right shift but as the game went on and even for the back end of the first half, he was pressing on his own
Can we refrain from mentioning the "Gummy toothless old lady"? Big Vern will be experiencing a tingling sensation in his nether region!!
