This game will be an interesting test of the difference in standard between the Championship and L1. In THEORY we should win comfortably, as we are a whole division above them. However, lower league sides always raise their game for these fixtures - cup games are always more valuable to lower placed sides, whereas the higher placed sides can see cup games as a 'distraction' and tend to hold back for fear of picking up an injury or a card (I think yellow cards only count in the competition they are issued in, but red cards count across ALL competitions?). This narrows the standard gap considerably and is a large part of the reason that you always see cup 'upsets'. I think we will win, but I think it will be a hard fought scrappy 1-0 or 2-1.
I would revert back to Weimann/Semenyo as the front 2 to start, then bring on the kids later in the game if we are comfortable. We haven't won many lately, so I don't think resting too many players and not taking this seriously should be our approach. This can be a confidence booster ahead of the World Cup break and the potential lure of a big PL club in the 1/4 final, why wouldn't they go for it with a strong side.....
there is 1 game before a month off so I would play a championship starting line up to start off ... go in 2/3 -0 up [ dont know how subs work in this compo but ] put on at least 2 to start second half ? reticent to do otherway round as could be all sq at halftime or even down a goal or 2 ! .... edit maybe shouldnt have given a clue! 2-0 half time
Personally I’d rest a few, give Lowe a start, I’d play Semenyo as he needs to build his confidence back up, not sure if Naismith or Kalas could be given a run out near the end to get some game time ease them back in.
If only he read these boards more often he'd be much better at selections and tactics! Lets hope Vyner doesn't read them though..........
Matches like this are always banana skins and often the supposed weaker side comes out on top. The best thing for both sides is a good draw in the next round and perhaps a protracted run that is good for the bank balance going forward. We should run out reasonable winners against a Lincoln side that has had it's fair share of positivity over the last 10 years or so under the Cowley brothers, and they have great support for a supposedly small market team. A 3-1 win would suit us well, because no matter who we play, because a win of any kind would fit the bill going into a tough home match versus Watford on the weekend. Going into the World Cup break would look so much better with another cup game ourselves, plus 3 more points in the Championship. A fly on the wall might give us some insight as to whether or not we decide to dip our toes in the upcoming transfer pool.
Make that 0-2 after only 15 minutes - shocking me says. Are we really this bad or do we need a bit more practice to get to that level? Are you enjoying it Wings?
obviously not,but if we dont turn this around serious questions need to be asked of the whole management setup,
as I predicted go with a "b" team to start and we have had it 2-0 down as W OAC says serious management problems ...... bye bye NIGE?
No, not really, not going to win this competition and a good run out for fringe players that we will need going forward. When our competitors are playing in the later rounds we will be pleased about that. Posted this at half time. Not lost yet!
