Unless the rules have changed, I think your correct and it results in a 2 match ban

Yeah, try telling a ref he's a 'cheating bastard' and then claim he can't send you off. <laugh>

That's true, depends on the distinction between dissent and abuse, but even just repeated dissent can result in a sending off.

    https://capitalfootball.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/2014-03-Respect-and-Dissent-Handout.pdf

So sounds like it's a sub-category of the official definition of dissent.

The famous case of Stuart Pearson being sent off for calling the linesman an onion, although he actually called him a ****ing onion.

Probably before your time sonny jim.
He is from Cottingham and played for England after he left City.

I've been going since 1969 so I'd hardly think so?

What's with the 'sonny jim' nonsense?

Based on you saying the game's gone soft, made me think it was before your time. Apologies.

George Best was getting fouled every time he got the ball in one particular chippy game and the ref called nowt.
George: "Ref, can I be sent off for what I'm thinking?"
Ref: " Of course not George."
    George: "Well I think you're a ***king **** ref."

Deano has the best being sent off stories.

Dunno if you've seen these from a refs perspective but I found them illuminating...

I got a 30 day ban off Facebook for calling someone a silly sausage.

What’s better, I appealed it, and they upheld it.

What’s even better, I then appealed it to the community standards team, and they upheld it.

A couple of weeks later, some fella called me a mong and offered to come and visit and knock a few of my teeth out. For a laugh I reported and, apparently there was nothing wrong with the comment and it was allowed to stand <laugh>

I know it's in the rules, but how often does it actually happen?

The only example I can find in the modern era, is Lee Cattermole being sent off for abusing the ref and that was over ten years ago.

Declan Rice recently (might’ve been last season or season before) accused the ref and linos to their faces of bribery after a West Ham Europa League game. It was caught on camera in the tunnels. Dunno if he was retroactively fined and suspended. Think that comes under ‘bringing the game into disrepute’.

He got a two game ban, though he wasn't sent off, as it happened after the game had finished.

Ah ok, your initial comment seemed to suggest you didn't think you could be, when you certainly can and it's in the rules. Just because refs don't apply it just means the refs are as **** as the players think they are.

I don't agree that refs are **** (they get stuff wrong of course). But I agree in that they should do what RU refs do.
