I replied to your post where you mentioned Billy Connolly, Gordon Kaye and Allo Allo……where in that post did you mention Tommy Cooper ??
You replied to the post where I said Billy Connolly was a comic genius, also mentioning Gordon Kaye and Allo Allo. Do you know who Kaye was? Do you really think Connolly was ****e?
Sayle wasn't in the same stratosphere as people like Eric Morecambe, Tommy Cooper, or even the fantastic Bob Monkhouse. Ben Elton is a brilliant comic writer.
Eh ? Have you been on the grog Col ? You’re now just repeating what I’ve already said and pointed out. Again....where did I mention Tommy Cooper and Eric Morcombe as being ****e ? That’s what you alluded to which is obviously not true as I’d previously said he (Cooper) was a “genius” (post #45). And in answer to your questions. 1/Yes 2/ Yes
Again, to my original point, which you now obvious agree with….it really is all about opinions. Seeing Billy Connolly live in Hammersmith all those years ago I quite simply found him boring and the show went on far too long without a break. I’ve seen far, far better stand up comedians…..in my opinion
Kenny Hotz and Spencer Rice. Kenny vs Spenny. Comedy gold. Competitions between two pals. Who can keep a dead octopus on their head the longest, go the longest without using hands, put on the most weight. Childish and brilliant. Especially when Kenny laces Spencer’s food with laxatives in one episode.
This is like watching tennis match between two punch-drunk bantam weights with Alzheimer's. And the score is - Deuce. Can't decide who's winning, but still interesting to watch. Keep it up fellas, beats flicking through the TV.
Funny: The Goons, Morecambe and Wise, Monty Python, Tommy Cooper, Eric Sykes, Billy Connolly, Bill Hicks, Fawlty Towers, Alan Partridge, Blackadder, Only Fools & Horses, The Young Ones, Chris Morris, Vic & Bob, The Fast Show, Ab Fab, Frankie Boyle, Kevin Bridges, Larry David, Sacha Baron Cohen, Phoenix Nights, Stewart Lee, Ricky Gervais, Richard Ayoade, James Acaster. Not Funny: Carry On, Dad's Army, Terry and June, 'Allo 'Allo, Love Thy Neighbour, Benny Hill etc. In my opinion.
Best of the current bunch on TV at the moment is Taskmaster (in my opinion). Now on it's 14th season, so must be doing something right - and Alex Horne has sold it to many places around the world...not bad for what was originally a bit if fun at the Edinburgh Festival
Genuine question Strolls…but if you take the style of humour of, for example, Eric Sykes/Hattie Jaques to Terry Scott/June Whitfield……weren’t they very similar ? And if so why do you like one and not the other ? Just curious…
