I know nothing about the guy. But if he comes to Saints we should all support him and judge him on his time here, not his other clubs. We all loved koeman and look how it turned out at everton for him ..........
I agree - I'm underwhelmed just like yourself, but he doesn't deserve to be written off. I haven't actually seen any evidence of that on my travels, mind, just people being (fairly I think) underwhelmed.
So, you know you are contradicting yourself, but as it was easier to find stuff that fitted your agenda, so you went with that. All that, and you will overlook the irony. Ok, right you are. Enjoy your evening fella
One thing I quite like is that fans of pretty much every club in the Championship, Luton aside, seem to despise Jones. Most describe him as being a horrible little bastard. I think we need a bit of that. In contrast, everyone seems to really like Ralph and rival fans have said they are surprised we think we are above him now.
One thing I've heard about Jones that I like is that he's an excellent man manager. Something that Ralph wasn't by all accounts and contributed to his downfall. So hopefully he can get JWP back to his best and install confidence back in the squad.
Another example of how questionable premier league experience is. He did an amazing job with us and went to Everton with a bigger budget and fell flat on his face. And consider we aren't going to be taking anyone with PL experience on the upswing so to speak. It would have been someone who has already failed at least once.
I'm quite looking forward to Jones v Conte when Spurs come to St Mary's. I don't think Jones will appreciate Conte's antics too much!
It sure has, they were wrong as well. I was able to find plenty of my positive posts even in defeats. It's funny you missed those posts as well as the further posts explaining this exact same thing time and time and time again. And as for those being positive and optimistic? Our fan base is so eager to roll over for any old bone thrown by the board (whatever board is in power at the time) That fans are trying to talk themselves in to being positive about appointing the Luton Town manager. Seriously? That's the sum total of our ambition, the Luton manager who failed at Stoke. And fans are happy.....jesus
A lot of our fans really like him as well. And still do. Probably one of the reasons he survived longer than he probably should have done in hindsight. Especially if the stuff about not having any real relationship with the players is true (from a man management side)
TBH, whilst I knew nothing about Nathan Jones I didn't expect to know anything about the manager that came in. The chances of a manager from a champions league club like Jaissle coming here are slim to non-existent, they would only come for money and the chance to move to a bigger club. The money we spent in the summer was on young, unproven talent looking for a chance for not a lot of money - the signs were all there re the next manager. I knew nothing about Ralph the only difference is I knew the clubs he'd had success at. Luton tells me nothing about Jones' potential with Saints. Will I be happy? No. Will I complain about it? No. Do I think the ownership know what they're after? Yeah, I do and I hope it works out.
I think you will find that I suggested I didn't think many were "happy" at all and that you were completely making that up. Because you largely are. Trying to be optimistic / positive is not the same thing As to the other stuff - I know I write long posts but it is starting to seem like I am the only one on here expected to include a proper balanced argument with detailed sources of both sides every time. It certainly seems to be what Billy expects. I may have missed those. But you also missed the negativity in the transfer thread. Even before it became apparent we were struggling with attacking signings (for which a negative response is completely justified).
IIRC he was very personable and down to earth but the snobbish attitude of some in the club did for him. Didn’t they want him to stop his restaurant review column?
I'm pretty sure that he has wound up the Skates in the past and they don't like him and that can only be a good thing!.
Why is the fact he is the luton manager bad? I get Jones isn't going to be that popular and I certainly have doubts over him. But it is wrong to just dismiss him because he is at Luton. Look at the job he has done there - from L2 to competing for PL promotion - that is an absolute miracle on a small budget. When we hired Adkins he was a physio turned manager at scunthorpe. And Poch had only managed 2 and a bit seasons at Espanyol before mutually terminating his contract with the team struggling. They turned out well.
I'm not denying being negative, I am most of the time (again debated to the nth degree, maybe you missed those posts as well while cherry picking) We didn't sell JWP I was wrong. We did buy a load of kids Trying to be optimistic about signing the Luton manager is exactly my point. I can't imagine many other fan bases trying to find the positives in that. We just blandly accept whatever is thrown at us. We beat inter Milan almost 5 years ago to the day. 5 years from beating Inter Milan to trying to poach the Luton boss. But we'll keep turning up, politely clapping when losing to Villa, Wolves, Everton and Palace. Smile sweetly while our club shuts areas of the ground and allows away fans to sit where they want, and take the piss. Because we're little old Southampton and we should be grateful to have a club at all etc etc. No other fan base would be so passive about this all
Espanyol were last when Poch left them. Scunthorpe has been an unfancied side taken up but dumped straight back down. Luton were taken up and got to the playoffs. Granted the step to be a PL manager is greater than to the Championship that Adkins took
