How exactly do you know this? It's been reported that Jones has been in our sights for over a year. I'm not thrilled with this but to say he's the cheap option is completely baseless.
TSP have just had a special. A few interesting titbits about Jones. Covered in tats & speaks fluent Spanish! Might be useful!? Edit: knee slides & gets in the face of the 4th official. I like it!
This is the only argument that I can see in favour of appointing Nathan Jones. However, I just think that there are so many more reasons why the appointment of an unproven manager at this stage seems so wrong. It really reminds me of the situation with Paul Sturrock who was similarly touted as a manager who could step up to the next level yet proved totally inadequate. There have been appointments in the past with the likes of the undortunate Dave Jones where there was a degree of success but I think football has moved on and the processes within the game have accelerated. Football in the 2020's does is not patient enough for clubs to take these kinds of massive risks. Whilst I concur with Vin that the new manager needs to be given a chance, it is not the kind of appointment that fires rhe imagination whether amongst the fickle fans or amingst the egos in the dressing room. It is not an ambitious appointment nor one made with much imagination. You could forgive the fans for starting to have doubts about Sports Republic. I would have liked us to have been bold and appoint a marquee manager like Vinvent Kompany or at least someone with international pedigree. Most fans would think the appointment strange with the club knowing that Ralph's conctract was up at the end of the year and that they had done their homework , looked at the coaches both home and abroad rather than looking for the "next Graham Potter." We should have had a more imaginative plan in place. If Nathan Jones is appointed he will have an up hill task appealing to the fans given that 50% of supporters still wanted to stick by Ralph. He was the most charismatic manager we have had for ages and, despite the last 12 months being a write off, he still managed to understand what the club was about. The obvious comparison would be when Poch replaced Adkins but, I regret to say, I just can't see this chap making this kind of transformation that we witnessed back then. We should have lined up another Koeman and not a League One non-entity. Really uninspired by this and hope the rumours are not true.
The irony is the people who wanted to stick with Ralph the longest are the ones willing to give Jones a chance.
What you say would have a bit more to it if you weren’t pretty much universally negative in your posting. You mostly pop up on match threads when things go badly (which to be fair has been quite a lot recently). But I’m sure your absence from match threads where there are positive results has been remarked upon by others. That’s your right of course but it colours things And it seems you are constantly on the lookout for a knife to stick into SR. It only took me a minute to fine this gem: “It'll be no different than under Gao. I have no clue why the majority of fans on here think we're splashing the cash this summer. We'll probably sell JWP and use 80% of that money at best. But at least we'll sign a 15 year old "for the future" “ This came to my mind when thinking about the sheer unrelenting negativity. I thought it was your post and was right. Last I checked JWP was still here, we spent money without sales and didn’t sign any 15 year olds. Sure we didn’t sign a striker but you were still pretty staggeringly wrong. I know Also I don’t think there are many who are outright “happy” with this potential appointment. So that is just inventing a group to insult. Yes insult, not argue or disagree with because that is all you did. But there are people who are trying to see the positives - especially as it looks like this is happening so griping and being negative wont achieve anything. People trying to be optimistic or at least not doom merchants. I mean really - I think it was you earlier in the thread that trotted out the absurd line about SR thinking the Turkish club are bigger and a priority. If it was a joke it was impossible to tell given the overall context And people trying to be positive or optimistic do not need their heads examined. They just have different opinion and outlook to you
It certainly isn’t lost on me that those most loudly calling for Ralph’s head (on all mediums not just here) are most loudly writing off the replacement before he’s even signed. Almost like some genuinely believed we could get Poch or someone similar in (I know this is the case on Twitter - people are more sensible here)
We arguably spent money in the bargain bin though. Buying potential for the most part. And Aribo and DCC fees seem pretty bargain bin to me
Not true, loads of people wanted Ralph gone and will give him a chance. People dont need to be happy, but there are enough people who have said they will support him. I am one of them.
Just because people are underwhelmed by it, doesn't mean they aren't going to give him a chance and support him. Has anybody actually said Jones out at all? Or I won't support Nathan Jones? Or something equally as straight up as 'Ralph out'?
I don’t think anyone needs their head examined for having a different opinion But I do wonder who some people thought we would get? And whether their records really are much better? For example can someone explain the Gallardo hype? Can he speak English (he did briefly Manager in the USA so I assume so). I always assumed Argentina was a two club league and he managed one of those and only one the league once (did win their continental competition twice though). But I don’t know the Argentinian league well other than none of their best players are in it And also - this call for premier league experience. I get it but where do you draw the line? Lots of people with PL experience have experience of failure. Gerrard? Bruce? Why not Pardew? Did anyone really want Dyche and that style of football (that we don’t really have the players for). So which PL experienced managers? Benitez? Woefully underperformed with a better squad at Everton. Martinez - oh would you look at that. Snap. I’m obviously cherry picking but who is a reasonably successful experienced PL manager who would join. Knowing full well (or at least people really should know) that we aren’t taking another PL clubs manager off them (will never happen)
Not totally true this, is it? Lincoln has been on loads of match threads when we have done well, being as happy as everyone else. This is a classic case of using a prefix on the poster and not really backing up. You have gone to find old posts to back up your point, when you could also have looked at the other posts that show when we win. Why didnt you do that? Lincoln may be vocal with negativity, but he also does share in the wins/draws that weren’t expected, so play the post and not the poster.
The thing is I knew this would happen. Eventually (be it today, yesterday, in a month, in a year), the Ralph Outers were going to be right. He would be gone. I also knew that they (well some) would then gloom and doom about: The board The new (potential) manager The money we have/don't have The ambition The players we won't attract The players we'll lose The way it is always the same The weather (not yet) I say it all the time and it isn't meant to be right or wrong, but some people are just plain miserable and angry. If they won the Euro Millions for £120 million but had to share it as someone else had the same numbers so only got £60 million they would still be unhappy. Going back to Vin's comment, I take optimism over pessimism any day of the week. Life is a lot rosier and bearable that way.
I'm not saying they won't support him, but some people are a lot more than underwhelmed - they're totally negative towards Jones. Just because he manages Luton - an unfashionable club. I'm a bit underwhelmed myself, but as @thereisonlyoneno7 said, having a positive frame of mind is much better. People should at least have an open mind. Jones has done a bloody good job with Luton on a tiny budget - he doesn't deserve to be written off before he's even got the job!
Totally agree, Jones would not have been on my list to put it politely but if the club wish to take this huge risk with our future then we must all rally behind our new manager and give 100% support Just hope the players have the same attitude after nearly 12 months of under performing for a manager they didn’t like
It’s not as easy (in fact it is much much more time consuming) to find posts by assorted other posters querying where Lincoln is on more positive results. Double checking that it was him that made that “same as Gao” prediction - took a minute I’m going to overlook the irony of the last part.
