You only have to look at United and Glaziers to see fans on clubs have little real power. For every fan that will boycott there is a dozen Asians willing to come for a visit
I just looked it up. The first principles of the supporters board which have been written into club articles "included a fan veto or consent on existential issues affecting the club" - like joining a super league. A sale sounds like it might fall into that category too.
We've just finished a very successful three year run where we've been going far in Champions League and Premier League and other cups. Our revenue is much better shape than when FSG bought us, but a few years out of the Champions League and we will be out of the loop. We only just barely overtook United (for non unlimited finance clubs) and that was after years of success for us and years of disaster for them. By the end of this season they will have leapfrogged us again.
Boston Globe owned by John Henry is reporting this... https://www.bostonglobe.com/2022/11/07/sports/fenway-sports-group-liverpool/
Read the first paragraph, which was enough. Essentially it says they're testing the waters. Seeing if someone will buy part or the whole club. Which would be very much in keeping with FSG, neither one thing or the other and confirming nothing. So all in all, they're open to selling the club, but only at the right price. Which I think we all knew from when they took over. That they were buying to raise the value and get out when we reached our optimum value. Which is probably now.
Btw if I were to "buy in" to fsg/ red bird or lfc (whatever is on the table) I'd want to know if John Henry is just going to take the cash and buy more real estate round Fenay Park. Remember that this guy sold 11% for 750mil and not one penny went to helping lfc in any way. Lfc are paying fsg 12 mil per year (after being made feel grateful to merely get a pause on repayments for covid) for main stand. Lfc paid 50mil for Kirkby not fsg and fsg have not paid one red cent for anfield road. So ask yourself next time you drive down Walton break road or visit anfield for a game or just look on Google maps at the derelict sites round anfield where did the cash go? Then Google Fenway park area regeneration. As I said I am utterly indifferent to fsg. They are what they are but whoever buys us would do well to wonder where does their return come from... red sox or lfc? Cos if its lfc I'd not bother unless buying it out
It is frustrating that they've made $4b profit by simply owning LFC for twelve years but don't pay for anything but I've always said I'm happy for the club to run itself
I feel it’s a really difficult one with fsg and I don’t think there is ever a right or wrong on how someone feels about them. The sceptic They got us for peanuts. Only allowed buys when we’ve sold and rarely put their own money towards transfers. Made us pay for own improvements in stadiums/training ground making massive profit if they do sell having invested very little of their own money Ticket price/ESL money grab The positive They saved the club at its lowest They generally kept a relatively low profile They hired the right football people (klopp and his support staff) They expanded the commercial stuff massively to allow us to record record turnover they made us self sustainable I’m torn on if should stay or go. On one hand, go, get someone in who, not necessarily like city gonna throw money left right and centre. Don’t want to be a billionaires player thing, but someone who is willing to back the club. However, that may be easier said than done and how many bad owners do we hear of? Whether it’s morally bad in Newcastle case, or just poor in that sack managers constantly, get too involved in the football etc.
really don't see this supposed 4bn valuation which i presume is based on Chelsea "sale" which included 1bn for new / improved ground and seems massively overpriced from outside .
Think they’ve always been doubting in ffp and have now seen Newcastle also be taken over with bottomless pit and looking to get out before they become the next city
not difficult to be more profitable than Chelsea since they never really made a profit under RA . Still from a purely financial pov don't see the value in buying a "big" football club at a prime value .
it's not just refuse the offer . actually don't bother as it is just a mash up of the reports which we have already seen .
