Fair response mate. I wasnt posting to make the conservatives seem less horrible, just to show both parties have challenges around who they appoint it seems. For what it is worth I can imagine no sensible reason at all to appoint Williamson, based only on ability. I am just as worried about Sunak appointing someone who seems completey useless, as I am about his promise of integrity being broken.
Stopping the flow of awful people into parliament in the first place will eventually stop awful people in parliament being the lead story on the news. No twisting required. I'd say being a racist is more serious than being an arse in a text message mind, regardless of which colour rosette they happen to be wearing.
You said he was a proven racist, he's not. If this wasn't an anonymous forum you wouldn't repeat that as you'd be open to a liable case. No one knows who's the worst person, between him and Williamson, but the situation is much more serious in the case of the latter. The new PM is under pressure to sack a newly appointed Minister. Not the first time he would be sacked either. That's much more serious than a local spat, concerning an unknown Councillor, about nuance and context. He's not even an MP and may never be.
From the article - “You might have known that I’ve got the worst possible tan possible for a black man,” Rodwell said at the event. “But I have the passion and the rhythm of the African and the Caribbean. I used to do swing dance, because I used to love jiggling about.” He was cleared of wrongdoing after an hour-long interview in front of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), and also apologised on Twitter for making the “stupid and embarrassing” remarks and the offence caused. He admitted it and apologised. I think I'm on safe ground here. If you want to handwave it away, that's up to you. We know what the reaction would be if it was blue and not red though.
Back to Boris... He is the new self acclaimed spirit of Glasgow at COP 27 One thing you can never accuse him of is hiding his light under a bushel...
I see exactly what's written, he wasn't proven to be a racist. He was accused and cleared, no police charges were brought. "He was cleared of wrongdoing after an hour-long interview in front of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), and also apologised on Twitter for making the “stupid and embarrassing” remarks and the offence caused.
The trouble is that people should choose their arguments carefully and admit defeat when obviously wrong ... ... failing to do that and entering into another ridiculous hair splitting saga proves the unshakeable bias he obviously has.
Sounds like Sunak is making some good inroads into topics whilst in Egypt. Be nice to see some concrete commitments come from these discussions. The tone certainly seems to be productive on things like the small boat crisis and the northern ireland protocol. On another note is Starmer not allowed to attend? I think it would be quite helpful to have his thoughts on reversing climate change on a global level. All in the spirit of getting more eyes on the challenge.
I've liked what I've heard from Sunak at the COP, but he's running back to Blighty tonight... these talks are a joke, what on earth can he achieve in 6 to 8 hours....
Yep, seems a missed opportunity. Maybe he will go back again later - it goes on for 2 weeks doesnt it? He cant do 2 weeks, but 2 or 3 days might see some progress.
Which you started by disagreeing with the idea that we should stop awful people getting into parliament. For some reason that's not bias but only applies to those one one side, apparently.
I said nothing of the sort. Once again you're incapable of logic and just seeing what you want to see ... ... you should have a day off and calm yersel down tbh.
Hopefully they have agreed a shared ambition. Now over to the relevant ministers and civil servants to get some details proposed on both sides.
