Sturminster Newton happens to be my local town and spookily I coach the U15 team ( in reference to OP)
I've seen Sturrock mentioned a couple of times on here, and that is apt because if Jones is appointed, I think I would be the most underwhelmed since Sturrock. That isn't to say it's the wrong decision (time will tell on that). And it certainly isn't to say that we haven't had anyone worse since Sturrock (we've had some right duffers since him) or indeed as unproven. But whereas usually I'm quite open minded - or, at the very least, can understand the circumstances/rationale behind an appointment (eg Hughes to try and keep us up) - this just leaves me very sceptical. Feels like a massive risk. But fair play to SR if it comes off.
If this happens if will be quite the gamble. And I always respect a courageous punt, especially a well thought out carefully calculated one, which I’m going to assume this is.
I know little about Nathan Jones. The bits I’ve read suggest we’d be an excellent fit for him. Not dissimilar to how we sign players now Im sure plenty of hose posters complaining are the same ones who thought Pellegrino was going to be incredible. I’m happy to trust Sports Republic in making their first managerial appointment
^^^^This If you are optimistic, the worst you'll be is disappointed later. The alternative is being miserable before, during and after. Give me optimism anytime. PS: Vin - do you want to start a mindfulness coaching business with me? We have our first customers here?
Haha what is going on with this vote? I have been sitting in a small minority of sack Ralph for ages and suddenly I am in the majority! Woohoo!
But we've always been that, and always will be. We'll forever be taking gambles on players and managers.
I could spend all year trying to convince everyone it’s November 8th. Just because tomorrow it happens doesn’t mean I was right the rest of the time, no matter how much I tell everyone I was
Hopefully they will be open minded and not footballing snobs. The game is still the game: kick the ball into their net and keep it out of ours. Just because he’s not a flashy European name it doesn’t mean he can’t do good work. Maybe what we need is a man motivator, someone who can build cohesion. Im trying to be open minded, they obviously see something in him.
Stylistically, he ticks boxes. There’s pressing football, ability to function within strict financial limits and his background (he was Potter’s no 2 at Brighton, former U21 team manager, the number of internationals who got their start at Yeovil due to him) Most important factor is arguably, will he continue to give minutes and trust to young players? If we don’t get a coach with a proven track record in that area, then it would be clear that we are in panic mode. His experience to date suggests that he will. It’s not meant to be impressive. It’s meant to be sensible. He’s not a sure thing, just like everybody else. And if I had to listen to a Benitez-type bang on about how he hasn’t got the players he wants then I would figuratively tear my ears asunder just to avoid hearing it.
