Nope someone on twitter said yesterday straight after the game that Nathan Jones was in the running but I thought he was taking the piss
Luton fans like him (of course) and say he's "not pretty, but efficient" - so seems to be quite mini-Dyche. Well, I do hope Mr Ankersen knows what he's doing...
Feels a bit odd this. One of my colleagues is a Luton ST holder and reckons he's great on the touchline, great at motivating and definitely an advocate of the high press. But their style is 'not pretty' and focussed on 'getting the ball forward quickly and chasing it down.' Might not be the worst style for us to adopt tbf...
In some ways, I'm quite impressed with SR. They've literally got nowhere to hide with this appointment. It's ballsy. Ankersen has a good reputation so I'll certainly keep an open mind about Jones. But it needs to work otherwise we'll be in the Championship next season.
Okay, so most of us went mental when the club appointed the unknown Mauricio Pochettino. If it's Jones, then so be it, let's get behind him and see how we go. Mate of mine just got in contact to tell me that he's actually very good, and we'd be lucky to get him. Ignore the Stoke disaster - that was a disaster of a club. So...well...yeah, it may not be inspiring on the face of it, but who knows? (Clue: not us).
This is true. Also, should we go down in May, Ralph will be quite removed from peoples thought processes by then given the time that will pass between then and now. However, what people will remember is that Sport Republic failed on getting a starting calibre striker in the summer and failed on their first managerial appointment. They’re potentially putting themselves in a position of having a lot of making up to do in 2023.
It does feel a bit weird this one, especially given the description of his tactics above. Mind you, could argue whatever is effective is necessary given our predicament.
Whether it's Jones or someone else, they'll get the best possible mid-season start you could hope for ... - 5/6 weeks to work with a group of players because of the World Cup - Losing very little players (if any?) to said World Cup - Time to bring back some of our better players from injury - A January transfer window - A post-Christmas fixture start that is relatively kind (Brighton, Fulham, Forest, Everton, Villa, Brentford, Wolves)
