BBC Breakfast is currently showing asylum seekers doing voluntary work on the Kennet and Avon canal. Isn't it wonderful ? The BBC is no better than the Russian state controlled media. Why not show which hotel has been compulsory taken over where this lot live and exactly how much in fiscal and healh benefits it all costs. Makes you wonder if the BBC's aim is to change and destroy this country. It has to be acknowledged the useless Tory government has made it easy for the BBC and Captain Hindsight.
agree with all this but last sentence is a throw away comment. Not the same I know but same principal .... where I go in Scotland is dozens of footpath's .. community service/ young offenders were taken to a footpath by coach [ mini bus plus a 4 x 4 with all the tools ] 12 of them +4. Plan to reconstruct areas of eroded footpath 2.5 hours either side of a lavish packed lunch! of 45 mins. Lasted 1 day made up [ well flattened out ] 6m /7m of a path that is 5km and to boot was the least needed bit. Attitude was such only 3 put in effort the rest just did basically nothing there were 4 " wardens" who also endeavoured to show them how ..... The hidden cost? well 2 vehicles Mini bus and and truck = 380 miles of fuel 4 adults wage for the day 16 meals plus a box of snacky bits ... HOWEVER... it is a bonus if they actually achieve something, like clear a km of canal and get it fit for use! Staying in hotel and no work is a negative ... staying in hotel and getting some work in return a positive. Also if just 1 or 2 learn from it and eventually get to live here they may contribute to the work force? DOWNSIDE i SUPPOSE is if they get paid to do it!!!!!

Ultimately the government are the only one’s that can take action, unfortunately the Tories have been in power 12 years and have let the situation develop into the farce it is now. The 2006 comment is totally irrelevant, that’s 16 years ago. I’m afraid this has happened under the Tory’s watch, and it’s completely their fault, to try to say otherwise is simply passing the buck & not taking responsibility, just like the complete mess this country finds itself in.
