Nathan Jones isn't a Graham Potter type of appointment like Potter was for Brighton. He would need to do a good job with Luton in the Premier League. Saints are more than likely in advanced negotiations with someone already. Clubs rarely sack anyone without an alternative.
I'm just holding onto a hope that this is like when Quique Sanchez Flores had his name front and centre and then Ralph emerged from nowhere.
I don’t think Potter managed in the Prem before he got the Brighton job, he went to Swansea after they went down and finished mid table in the Championship his only season there. Disappointing seeing as they had just been relegated Brighton fans were probably saying similar things about him when he was linked to the job
Fair play. Weird then that he was named manager of the season just a few months earlier. Seems to blow extremely hot and cold. Might suggest that tactically he is sound, but maybe a bit of a twat and loses the dressing room, or vice versa.
"Diamond formation? Does anyone really know what that is? I mean, at least you knew where you were with Alf Ramsey's wingless wonders. You know? 4-4-2, 4-2-4, 4-3-3... 0898 654000, freephone double glazing?"
Luton had a terrible start to the season I believe, but he’s turned it around now. I’m not overly fussed who we get as very few managers are successful everywhere they go, so it is hard to know how well a manager will do until they are actually in the job. Some with terrible records can work wonders at a club out of the blue, some who are good everywhere can be **** at a certain club.
Oh I'm not hoping he gets the job either. But, let's face it none of us really know a thing about him apart from what we've read on Wikipedia. No doubt the club have a far more in-depth knowledge of his positives (and negatives).
Totally agree. I just think psychology has a big role to play here, for both fans and players, and this ain't good psychology...
Unless the psychology is to leak a name from the lower leagues that nobody will want so everyone's pleased and relieved when we pluck an obscure manager from the Slovenian PrvaLiga.
Luton are playing tomorrow night (against Stoke ironically) so see what Jones is like after the game with the fans to know how close this is/isn’t
The poster on Ugly Inside (franniestache) who broke the Sports Republic takeover says that Gallardo is the top pick, with Nathan Jones the back-up. Pinch of salt with all things like this obviously.
