What did you make of it today? I felt we never got into our stride and we've still swatted them. Felt we were disjointed at times and I think 4-1 has flattered us a bit but, wow, what a difference a year makes. Happy Days

Yeah we were not at our best, but absolutely clinical when we got the chance. Soton unlucky really, weren’t as bad as 4-1 suggests and Howe was right that was not a good performance - but isn’t thx cliche to win when playing badly?

Longstaff worked tirelessly. Constant press and covered so much ground, as did Willock, they look like they both love playing this way. Murphy is the one really out of his depth but still works hard and adds to the overall pace of the team, which is great.

I was in the home fans and got to watch Trippier closely for 45 minutes. He’s another level. His talking, leadership and ability were something special. Reading the game, awareness and always talking, absolutely outstanding. So even though we were a bit flat and, which was out of character, conceded a lot of chances for Soton, we still had Trips, Bruno, Longstaff, Willlock and Almiron 8/10.

Just bags is spirit and character. Joyous to be on this journey.

Kind of gutted you were in home end, was going to ask how you celebrated Woods goal? However, you saying the word joyous works for me <laugh>

I went today. 1st chance I have had to see the team live today.

Southampton were poor really. It was pretty easy for us without playing brilliant. 1st half though Burn looked uncomfortable at LB but played well 2nd Half. Botman had some really dodgy moments with the ball which I was surprised about. You can see we had switched off after 0-3 and some subs were made which let them get the goal but you can see how easy it was for us to go up the other end and get one straight back through Bruno.

Now on the more positive, seeing Trippier live you really realise how good he is. Absolute class act. We worked really hard right though the team and when we got in position were clinical. Such confidence all through the side. The support too...I sung myself horse! The vibe is unreal right now and must make us really hard to play against home or away. Any kind of result against Chelsea and it's been an unbelievable start to the season.

I agree with tash about Longstaff, he isn't good enough, he's only playing because Shelvey and Joelinton aren't available, so what he runs around, that isn't skill it is bare minimum anyway, he kept losing possession.

Local lad and all that but not good enough as we progress as a club.

I don't care that Alan Smith gave him MOTM either, bloke doesn't know what he is talking about.

I thought Longstaff was outstanding today. Fantastic work rate, some very good passes and really supporting the attack well. It says a lot for me that he is one of the players that Howe now gives the full 90mins every week and that has happened throughout this unbeaten run.

I don't think anyone would have issue with what you've said, I think it's more a case of anything under a 6 is considered having a **** game. Blame Football Manager and Fifa perhaps for this. So, I think when you rate players below that, some people find it odd.

    Murphy and Wood.

Murphy didn't do anything at all, he was none existent. He's a 6 and Longstaff is below even that? <laugh>

Wood had a decent goal and did nothing else, thought he looked slow and sluggish.

If we drop Longstaff and put Shelvey permanently back in the 11 Howe needs sacking.

If any fan agrees they need shooting

Shelvey is the worst midfielder at Newcastle United today

He was ok, worst of the midfield 3, Bruno didn't have his best game but a poor/average Bruno is still better than Longstaff.

Sorry, i'm not going to praise someone just because they have high running stats, we need more than that.

Trippier is God, despite the missed header Longgy was great, Bruno was awesome as usual.

Central defence slightly suspect for once, as Soton missed several glaring chances, and were also the better team in the second half until we scored.

Wood's appearances are rare, so good to see him taking his chance well, despite the unwarranted crap he gets on here. I guess he'll start vs Palace.

Lol the style we play is beyond him.

Can't fathom how in 2022 there are Newcastle fans who WANT Shelvey to start, when we are ****ing third in the league and winning all our games.

It's just a moronic response to an in the end easy as 4-1 away win.

If it's a straight choice between Longstaff and Shelvey then yes i want Shelvey to start.

When everyone is fit it's Bruno, Joelinton and Shelvey, we all know it.
