Mate, nice reference to Marie Antoinette (although doubts she actually said "Let them eat cake"). So you're in health care. Good on you if so, and more power to you. And stay healthy, ... cause I need to ask you about my back. I've been getting these pains lately and, um ...
Yeah, exactly. If you're unappreciated by the employer (i.e. the government), then you're not going to want do your best. Same everywhere, even in football. I'll be surprised if some nurses don't leave if they can find better employment. They have enough on their plate with conditions the way they are, and on top of that, they cop abuse for things out of their control. Same here in Oz. I know that in some countries, if you don't make an up-front payment, you don't get into the hospital. People are literally dying in the streets! Kudos to all our health care workers.
This thread really brings home the QPR "brotherhood" and puts into sharp relief that football is only a game, even if it binds us together and brings as transient happiness. Please take it easy and get well all of you. We need you all here to share the burden of supporting the Rrrs.
Take it easy Hb and give yourself some rest. And full credit to to you pal for helping out fellow patients. Take a few slow deep breaths before writing on our performances Hb, we don’t want that blood pressure raising. Take care and look after yourself.
So for anyone remotely interested here’s where I am now.....met with my Oncology consultant today and still not decided whether it’s good news or bad. Good News - Previously they were saying that the Cancer had become Stage 3a/Localised advanced with a Gleason score of 3+4. Now he has looked at my MRI scan himself he isn’t so sure the Prostate is “bulging” so is gonna have a second opinion and make decisions on the end treatment on my next appointment in 2 weeks time.....in the meantime it’s a 28 day course of Bicalutamide and an implant of Goserelin a fortnight. From what I’ve learnt these are Testosterone blockers and I’ve been told I will get quite fatigued, amongst other side effects which seem ****ing awful. If the second opinion is that it isn’t bulging then he reckons I can have Brachitheraoy, which is where they inject radioactive seeds into the Prostate to kill off the Cancer and hopefully that’s all good. Bad News - IF the original diagnosis is correct and it has reached stage 3, then it’s gonna be all the above PLUS 4-5 weeks of beam Radiotherapy which, the consultant has said in a much nicer way, will **** me....and I’m gonna get tired just watching TV and my mood is gonna be worse than after watching yet another Rangers defeat in the third round of the cup yet again. Can’t say I’m looking forward to any of this and to be honest, more than a little scared but hey, ho...it is what it is (Oh I love that phrase) So lesson of the day....get checked out gentleman. PSA is not a diagnosis BUT it can be a pointer for further investigation Love and peace and solidarity
I have been offered that for sure and did consider it. However after weighing it all up for the last couple of weeks, I’ve gone for the Radiotherapy. The risk of being called “Pissy Pants” for the rest of my life was just a risk too far.
Ah, that's the side effect is it? It's probably reserved for the worst cases. It seems to me it's a good sign radiotherapy is on offer, which is usually reserved for milder cases.
Yeah I’m lucky it hasn’t mets yet and he says it’s become aggressive but not the worst he’s seen……clutching at straws and that From my investigating, the chances of incontinance and erectile disfunction comes down a lot to which surgeon does the op….some are like butchers it seems…..didn’t want to take the chance
Ffs Staines, whatever procedure you decide to go ahead with, I'm really hoping the outcome is a positive one for you ! We're all behind you pal, you can conquer this **** of a disease.
Sounds like you had most of the answers before your consultation Stainsie - it’s a $hit highway with no good roads really isn’t it. Good to see you’re doing all your research and making your decisions that suit your life as best it can be. My fingers are crossed for you buddy and I hope things improve a little bit after the second review. Best get a local library ticket as the boycott starts soon
I'm almost 2 weeks behind on this thread and just seen this......... Hope you're feeling better now mate, certainly the R's haven't helped much in the last 2 weeks, at least now you've got 4 weeks of stress free....... take care
You've got this mate, the hormone injection is the same as I had & we have talked about how you will feel, it does get easier
Staines mate. Like Trammers, just read above and feeling gutted. Not sure what to say. I've been on other threads trying to make up silly remarks, as you have certainly noticed, and you've just brought me back to earth. I thought my problems were bad, but I can't begin to imagine the stress you're going through. Like all the posters, I really want you to beat that bastard and I, as well as others on this thread/board, will pray for your speedy and painless recovery. I can't believe I'm saying this, but bugger QPR and the whole football world if that's what it takes for you to get better. Sorry, but this sort of stuff really gets to me and I can't help but feel for all those affected by disease, famine, war and basically anything that seems unjust or unfair. Apologies if this comes across as depressing, but know that we are all rooting for you, as well as Hammersmith, 'cause we really respect your input and admire your resilience and level headedness as you deal with this abhorrent condition. We all know you'll get through it mate. After all, only the GOOD die young.
