Ffos las 215 dentley de mee get a 1st run for Miss Williams and the inform Deutsch is in th plate . Dentley has been off the track for 600days nearly but if retaining any previous form they will be the ones to beat . 5/2 looks fair enough for a small bet
Sandown 1250 Hobbs does well here and guernesey could do the double . Jack mitchel take a very handy 10lbs of for his inexperience , hurdles record reads 29 runs 5 wins 5 places . I have got 8s of wh but 7s generally still looks very fair.
Sandown 235 The battle of the seven year olds this bet is more for intrest and small picdohry is the fav but is yet to be tested at distance and really did not look comfortable when running at Sandown . The 2nd fav does he know goes the distance and wh have them at 5/2 anything less and i probrably would not even small stake . But it will be interesting to see who takes the listed event
Is it just me or is it a bit ridiculous that so many novice chasers have their first run over fences in a novices handicap (presumably based on their hurdles ratings)? There seems to be lots of novices handicap chases yet hardly any novice chases or beginners chases. What’s the idea?
Both todays tracks do provid a good test of jumping ability maybe they struggle to get the beginners , why put an investment straight in at the deep end . They are not bad cards for a Sunday though
Previously trainers had stated it was pointless running an good horse (say 120 rated) in a beginners chase because you’d be up against a 140+ Nicholls or Henderson horse, so you’d get small fields. So they’ve changed it to handicaps, which means those who have got a high mark over hurdles now have a major disadvantage to those who have been trained with handicap chases in mind. So now you have the big trainers (just Hendo) moaning about where to run their horses because of the changes. Then to top it off, you get novices running in normal handicap chases anyway so field sizes are still rubbish.
A win-win situation then Fair play to Nicholls for running Frodon in the Badgers Ales Handicap yesterday - made for a much better spectacle than if he had gone to Down Royal.
DROMORE LAD must have a great chance of landing a weak looking Cork National today. He won the race two years ago off 125 and gets in today off 122 (2lb o/h). My only negative is that he did run a stinker in last years renewal. Very nice looking bumper at Sandown today and I am siding with BIG FISH. The yard do well in bumpers, often at decent odds. They won this race in 2015 when Full Irish absolutely hosed up and I am hoping they have a similar type for the race today. Nicely bred for this particular test.
Small bets Cork 15,13 Fully Charged 16/1 e/w sky six places, five others Navan 15,27 Dunvegan 25/1 e/w bet365 five places, 20/1 sky and PP six places
In the Cork Grand National (15:13), a marathon slog over 3m4f in soft-to-heavy ground, will take a chance with Siberian Prince. Certainly not at all sure whether the Shirocco gelding will see-out the full distance, but can't see anything else I like other than Stick's choice, Dromore Lad. Possibility of an Australian-style 'boilover' here? We'll see! Generally-available 8/1 best price at time of writing. E/W 5-places might be best option?
The COTC said it was still raceable but the emergency services would not have been able to access certain parts of the course quickly enough in the event of an incident. As Nass would say "NH racing in Britain is dying on its arse".
That’s more polite than what I’d be saying. As if it wasn’t bad enough they started the card with the horses not jumping many fences (no railway fences for god sake) but then to can it because of emergency service issues is farcical. the sport is dying, very quickly too.
